The time has come, the fandom said, to cry of many things. Specifically, I'm speaking of the One Direction fandom, who received a gift and a slap in the face on Friday when One Direction released Made In The A.M., their final album before the band goes on a hiatus that has no set end date just yet. The album was everything you'd want and more from a goodbye album, but it was still a goodbye album, thus making this entire weekend a bittersweet one for Directioners.
And, honestly, the band was very aware of that when they were crafting these songs, because there are numerous Made In The A.M.
lyrics to comfort fans during the hiatus. While the songs themselves might have different subject matter, these lines are like a safety blanket you can wrap around yourself at night to make it through this. Saying goodbye to a band isn't easy, no matter how temporary that goodbye might be. While One Direction might return naturally in the same amount of time that they would usually take to put out an album, there's always that fear in the back of a fan's mind that this will be the end.
They could be the new Spice Girls, and never get back together, or the new Fall Out Boy, and get back together after almost a decade. One can never know. But when goodbye is bittersweet one direction worried or scared or sad or just plain missing the boys, check out the lyrics and they might just make you smile again. 1. "I come alive when I hear your voice.
It's a beautiful sound. It's a beautiful noise." â "Hey Angel" Is there any song that One Direction has done that doesn't make their fans feel this way?
All their beautiful voices combining to croon into our ears about love and life and loss makes the Directioners come alive. 2. "If I didn't have you, I'd never see the sun. You taught me how to be someone." â"Drag Me Down" There are numerous members of the Directioner fandom that have credited the boys and their music with getting them through some tough times, with being there for them over the course of their lives, and for helping them grow into the people that they are today.
Thus, this line is incredibly poignant, because it's how a lot of them are feeling right now. 3. "If tomorrow you won't be mine, won't you give it to me one last time?" â"Love You Goodbye" This is so true.
We can definitely make some more. Heck, Directions and the band have tons more history to write in the future, despite what a paradox that might sound like. If they think that we'll live forever, then I can't help but believe them.
11. "We had some good times, didn't we? Goodbyes are bittersweet, but it's not the end.
I'll see your face again." â"Waiting In The Wind" I CAN'T. GOODBYE. So, yeah, this hiatus is going to be rough. Yes, we might have thought we were over it until this album came along to break us all over again.
But, as a fandom, we are strong. The band loves us goodbye is bittersweet one direction much as we love them, and they've left us with tons of songs to get us through this hard time.
They'll see us again. All we have to do is wait. Image: Giphy (11) Madeline Roth madfitzroth 11/12/2015 All over the world, One Direction fans are anxiously counting down the minutes until the bandâs fifth album, Made In The A.M., arrives on their doorsteps and in their iTunes libraries.
Itâs an album shrouded with bittersweet anticipation: in the months following its release, the band plans to take a hiatus, and though theyâve promised to return eventually, their absence will be deeply felt â especially because fans have come to expect an album and a tour from them every year for the past five years (which is exactly why a break is so well-deserved).
One Direction have been steadily dropping new MITAM tracks over the past couple weeks to whet our appetites, but listening to the album as a whole puts all those songs in context and ultimately makes them more meaningful. Take, for instance, the rootsy singalong â History.â 1D released the song on Nov. 6, prompting an outpouring of emotional responses from goodbye is bittersweet one direction who latched onto lyrics like âthis is not the endâ and âwe can live forever.â As the song that closes out the standard edition of MITAM, âHistoryâ carries a lot of weight.
1D were probably mindful that track No. 13 would have to be goodbye is bittersweet one direction fitting curtain-closer â and they couldnât have picked a better or more poignant goodbye (or "see you later" -- hiatuses aren't forever!) than âHistory.â Littered with hand claps and campfire singalong vibes, âHistoryâ is both nostalgic and forward-looking at the same time. The guys recount memories of âmini bars, expensive cars, hotel rooms and new tattoos,â and even acknowledge âall of the rumors, all of the fightsâ that have followed them throughout the years.
But ultimately, this song is about being one half of âthe greatest teamâ and one of the most unstoppable forces in the world: a band and their fans. We know One Direction are perfectly capable of moving listeners to tears with sensitive ballads like âYou & Iâ and âSpaces.â But they shine brightest when they channel the joyfulness and boyishness that made music lovers fall in love with them in the first place. So instead of commemorating their relationship with their fans via a sappy ballad, Harry, Liam, Louis and Niall have gifted us a spirited song thatâs optimistic and reassuring â it doesnât get more triumphant than the chorusâ closing line: âWe can live forever!â When all is said and sung, One Directionâs legacy will be that they made people happy.
Their music has delighted and healed millions of fans all over the world who rely on these guys to make them dance, make them feel loved and ultimately make them feel a little less alone by giving them a welcoming community to be a part of. For many 1D fans, this band gave them a ton of memories: their first CD, their first concert, their first celeb crush. Theyâll move on to love other bands in 1Dâs absence; they might even decide theyâre not into pop music anymore and move on to other genres.
But One Direction will always be an intricate part of their own personal âhistoryâ â and thatâs something worth celebrating.
One Direction is dropping amazing track after amazing track and I don't hate it one bit. The latest Made in the A.M. song to grace our lives is "Love You Goodbye," a One Direction power ballad for the ages.
Seriously, this one will have you silently weeping from the heartache alone, so grab a pint of Ben & Jerry's and buckle up. While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Louis Tomlinson explained the meaning behind "Love You Goodbye," saying, "I think itâs kind of like when ⌠how to put this?
When you come to the end of a relationship and you always find yourself seeing that person one last time. Itâs that moment .
If you can read between the lines." In case you can't read between the lines, here's a hint from the lyrics: "One more taste of your lips just to bring me back / To the places we've been and the nights we've had / Because if this is it then at least we could end it right." Even though the song commemorates a breakup, there's definitely a bittersweet quality to it.
"It's inevitable everything that's good comes to an end," they sing. "It's impossible to know if after this we can still be friends, yeah." Another key lyric: "Oh, why you're wearing that to walk out of my life?" The heartbreak is palpable, guys.
While the end of a relationship might be inescapable, that doesn't lessen the significance of the time the two spent together. One Direction also touch on this in the most poignant of ways, saying, "Unforgettable together held the whole world in our hands / Unexplainable the love that only we could understand, yeah / I know there's nothing I can do to change it / But is this something that could be negotiated / My heart's already breaking, baby, go on, twist the knife." Directioners, the inevitable hiatus is hitting us all differently, but at least we have songs like these in which we can pour out our emotion and cry like we did the first time we saw the band in concert.
In his own words! Zayn Malik has gotten real about his experience in One Direction since saying goodbye to the group. Just like the rest of his former bandmates â Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne â the British singer auditioned for The X Factor as a solo artist before being put in the group. Once their time on the show came to an end, the boys found worldwide success and released four records, Up All Night, Take Me Home, Midnight Memories and Four.
Then, on March 25, 2015, everything changed when Zayn announced that he would be leaving One Direction. âMy life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. Iâd like to apologize to the fans if Iâve let anyone down, but I have to goodbye is bittersweet one direction what feels right in my heart,â he said in a statement shared on the bandâs goodbye is bittersweet one direction Facebook page.
âI am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall.
I know they will continue to be the best band in the world.â The band went on as a foursome and released one more album before taking an indefinite hiatus in December 2015. Following his departure from the group, Zayn went on to make music as a solo artist and has released three albums over the years â Mind of Mine, Icarus Falls and Nobody Is Listening.
The British singer and Gigi Hadidalso welcomed their first daughter together in September 2020, but theyâve since called it quits. Throughout various interviews, Zayn has spoken out a few times about his decision to say goodbye to 1D. In March 2021, he even revealed which memberâs solo music he likes the best.
âI donât think thereâs a comparison [between the four boysâ music],â he told Sirius XMâs Debatable at the time. âBut Iâll tell you what, Niall is my favorite. How about that? Niall makes the best music.â The singer noted that the âSlow Handsâ crooner makes âbetter musicâ than him before dubbing himself as âa Niall fan.â But thatâs not all heâs said about the group.

They knew that, they were aware of that, always,â he explained. âWhen I was leaving the band, they obviously didnât want me to leave, but they couldnât talk me out of it at that point.
I had already made up my mind so I just left.â Disliking the Music âThatâs not music I would listen to ⌠Would you listen to One Direction at a party with your girl? I wouldnât. To me, thatâs not an insult, thatâs me as a 22-year-old man,â he told Rolling Stone in November 2015. âAs much as I was in that band, and I loved everything that we did, thatâs not music that I would listen to.
I want to make music that I think is cool sât. I donât think thatâs too much to ask for.â Expressing His Frustrations âI never really wanted to be there in the band,â the singer admitted during a 2016 appearance on Beats 1 Radio.
âI just gave it a go because it was there at the time and then when I realized the direction we were going in with the music, I instantly realized it wasnât for me because I realized I couldnât put any input in.
I couldnât give my opinion on this or that because it didnât fit the grain of what we were as a band or what we represented.
So thatâs when it became frustrating for me.â The Groupâs Personalities The âPillowtalkâ singer reflected on being labeled as âthe mysterious oneâ when talking with Complex for their April/May 2016 issue. âThe other boysâ personalities were much more forward. They would answer the questions. I would let that happen because, like I said, I goodbye is bittersweet one direction have any creative input there. I didnât feel like I was going to say anything about it anyway.
Now I get to talk about what Iâm passionate about â itâs nice to have the chance to speak,â he said. âNo one can ever say I was ungrateful, even though it sort of comes across that way when I mention that I was frustrated with the band.
Thatâs not the case at all. That was just an experience that had to be dealt with at the time. With the music that Iâm doing now, I get to express myself, and that creative tension is gone.â No Longer Friends When asked about his relationship with the boys in September 2017, Zayn told Us Weekly that he ânever really spoke to Harryâ during his time in the band.
âI didnât really expect that much of a relationship with him,â he said the time. He continued, âItâs not the way it used to be, obviously we were a lot goodbye is bittersweet one direction because we were together the entire time, spending 24 hours a day in the band and now weâre not so weâre living our own lives, weâre all growing as individual men and we still keep in touch and check in with each other not as much as we used to.â Crazy Schedule In November 2018, Zayn reflected goodbye is bittersweet one direction how fast everything moved while he was on tour with 1D.
âWe went from theaters, to arenas, to stadiums â there was never any sort of bridge between. Just boom, boom, boom,â he told Vogue. âI guess that kind of progression to any mind â but especially when youâre 17, 18 â it kind of affects you a little bit. People take it different ways â especially when there are five different personalities. The relationships had broken apart ⌠Thatâs just the way it is.
Thereâs things that happen and things that were said after I left ⌠Snide things. Small things that I would never have expected.â Remembering it Fondly Despite all the frustrations he had with the band, he told Voguethat all in all, he looks back at the band as âan amazing experience.â âI think back to the performances towards the end, when we were in stadiums, I wasnât really ever able to enjoy the experience.
The machine had gone too fast,â he explained.
âWe went from theaters, to arenas, to stadiums â there was never any sort of bridge between. Just boom, boom, boom. I guess that kind of progression to any mind â but especially when youâre 17, 18 â it kind of affects you a little bit. I ainât spoke to any of them for a long time, to be honest with you.
Thatâs just the way it is. Thereâs things that happen and things that were said after I left. ⌠Snide things.
