Toyota supra 2021

toyota supra 2021

By Drew Dorian Overview Pay no mind to the fact that the 2021 Toyota Supra shares much of its chassis and powertrains with the BMW Z4—it offers its own distinct personality and is an utter blast to drive.

Two different turbocharged powertrains—an inline-four and an inline-six—are on offer, both of which drive the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

We know, we know: a six-speed manual would be preferable. To be honest, this automatic does an excellent job, changing gears crisply and responding quickly to the Toyota supra 2021 paddle shifters.

So impressed are we with the Supra, we've named it an Editors' Choice and to our annual 10Best list two years in a row. Its snug cabin, while not the right size for every driver, is nicely finished. Want a convertible? Then you'll have to get the Z4; the Supra is available only as a coupe. What's New for 2021? Only a year after the Supra was reintroduced, Toyota is turning up the heat on the car's turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, dialing up its horsepower from 335 to 382.

To help the Supra broaden its reach, the company is also adding a four-cylinder model to the lineup, which is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 that makes 255 horsepower. The range-topping A91 special edition comes standard with the six-cylinder engine and adds a host of appearance items to the interior and exterior to differentiate it from regular Supra models.

Last year's standard 6.5-inch infotainment screen is gone; the larger 8.8-inch display is now standard across the lineup. Pricing and Which One to Buy Although there's little driving emotion lost with the new four-cylinder Supra 2.0, we predict that the inline-six will be worth the cost of the upgrade for toyota supra 2021 buyers.

We'd skip the Driver Assist package; it adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-centering assist that's more annoying than toyota supra 2021.

With the purchase of a Supra comes a one-year membership to the National Auto Sport Association and a complimentary day at a high-performance driving event. The money saved by not optioning the Driver's Assist package would be wisely spent on additional track time and spare tires. Engine, Transmission, and Performance All Supra models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and are offered only with rear-wheel drive.

At the test track, our long-term 2020 Supra 3.0 laid down some seriously impressive acceleration numbers: zero to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and zero to 100 mph in 9.5.

That puts it in the big leagues against the Chevy Camaro, the Porsche Cayman GTS, and the BMW M2 Competition. In fact, it's even quicker than the vaunted fourth-generation Supra that was powered by a sequentially-turbocharged inline-six with 320 toyota supra 2021.

It's a shame that a manual transmission is not available, but hope isn't completely lost; it's rumored that the Supra will gain a stick later in its production run. Despite its performance potential, the Supra's suspension is forgiving enough to drive daily. Its steering is accurate, nicely weighted and direct, which enhances its fun-to-drive personality.

The lower-priced four-cylinder model is new for 2021 and delivered a brisk 4.7-second zero-to-60-mph run at our test track. That's quicker than the Supra's German cousin—the BMW Z4—which managed a 5.0-second zero-to-60-mph time. Tested: Mustang 2.3L vs. Supra 2.0 Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG Now with more horsepower, the fuel-economy ratings for the 2021 Supra 3.0 take a slight hit but are still good, earning 30 mpg highway, 22 mpg city, and 25 mpg combined.

That's more efficient than the Camaro, the Cayman GTS, and the M2. On our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test route, the six-cylinder Supra exceeded its highway rating by delivering 34 mpg. Those looking for even better fuel economy with their sports car will find it in the four-cylinder Supra, which carries ratings of 25 mpg city and 32 mpg highway; in our testing, this model exceeded its highway rating and delivered a stellar 38 mpg.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo The driver-focused cockpit is tight, and although the double-bubble roof provides some additional headroom, the tallest drivers will feel pinched. Cargo space is similarly cramped, but the cargo area (accessed via a hatchback) should toyota supra 2021 roomy enough for a couple of duffle bags, a week's worth of groceries for two, and maybe even a set of golf clubs depending on the bulkiness of the bag.

In our testing, we managed to fit four carry-on suitcases behind the rear seats. Much of the Toyota's interior is shared with the Z4, so those familiar with BMW switchgear and infotainment controls will feel right at home. Why We Test: Every Number Tells a Story Infotainment and Connectivity Speaking of infotainment, the Supra's central display is an 8.8-inch unit with a very lightly reskinned version of BMW's latest iDrive interface.

A digital gauge display—which is another carry-over piece from the BMW parts bin—is standard across the range. Navigation and Apple CarPlay capability are both available, but Android Auto isn't offered. A 12-speaker JBL audio system is optional but we expect the standard 10-speaker audio system will be enough for most buyers considering the size of the Supra's interior. How to Repair, Maintain, and Care for Your Car Safety and Driver-Assistance Features The Supra has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Toyota offers a host of driver-assistance features as standard across the Supra lineup, including automated emergency braking. Additional features such as adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring can be added via the Driver Assistance package for $1195. Key safety features include: • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection • Standard lane-departure warning • Standard automatic high-beam headlamps Warranty and Maintenance Coverage Although it shares toyota supra 2021 with the Z4, the Supra offers slightly longer powertrain coverage but falls behind the BMW with a shorter limited warranty and complimentary scheduled maintenance plan.

• Limited warranty covers 3 years or 36,000 miles • Powertrain warranty covers 5 years or 60,000 miles • Complimentary scheduled maintenance is covered for 2 years or 25,000 miles More Features and Specs The best of both the premium and performance worlds, the 3.0 Premium is mechanically identical to the lesser 3.0, but is set apart visually by full leather upholstery and heated sports seats, while the pedals are swapped out for ‘sport pedals’.

The driver benefits from a full-color head-up display, and the infotainment suite is bolstered with navigation, wireless device charging, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Toyota Supra Connect app compatibility, while a JBL surround sound system with 12 speakers ensures quality audio thanks to a 500-watt output. • Acura • Alfa Romeo • Apollo Automobil • Aston Martin • Audi • Bentley • BMW • Bollinger • Bugatti • Buick • Cadillac • Caterham • Chevrolet • Chrysler • Dodge • Ferrari • Fiat • Fisker toyota supra 2021 Ford • Genesis • GMC • Hennessey • Honda • Hyundai • Infiniti • Jaguar • Jeep • Karma • Kia • Koenigsegg • Lamborghini • Land Rover • Lexus • Lincoln • Lordstown • Lotus • Lucid Motors • Maserati • Mazda • McLaren • Mercedes-Benz • Mini • Mitsubishi • Nissan • Pagani • Polestar • Porsche • Ram • Rimac • Rivian • Rolls-Royce • Spyker • Subaru • Tesla • Toyota • Volkswagen • Volvo
Riding high on the sales success that was 2020’s Launch Edition, the A91 Edition Supra is limited to just 1,000 units.

Mechanically identical to the 3.0 Premium, the A91 is available in either Nocturnal or the A91-exclusive Refraction paint schemes and gets matte black alloy wheels, a carbon lip spoiler, carbon fiber mirror caps, and satin-finish double-hash decals on the C-pillar.

Inside, it makes do without the head-up driver display and reverts back to combination leather/Alcantara upholstery in two-tone black and blue with blue contrast stitching for added color. These models also get unique key covers and a special A91 Edition trunk mat. • Acura • Alfa Romeo • Apollo Automobil • Aston Martin • Audi • Bentley • BMW • Bollinger • Bugatti • Buick • Cadillac • Caterham • Chevrolet • Chrysler • Dodge • Ferrari • Fiat • Fisker • Ford • Genesis • GMC • Hennessey • Honda • Hyundai • Infiniti • Jaguar • Jeep • Karma • Kia • Koenigsegg • Lamborghini • Land Rover • Lexus • Lincoln • Lordstown • Lotus • Lucid Motors • Maserati • Mazda • McLaren • Mercedes-Benz • Mini • Mitsubishi • Nissan • Pagani • Polestar • Porsche • Ram • Rimac • Rivian • Rolls-Royce • Spyker • Subaru • Tesla toyota supra 2021 Toyota • Volkswagen • Volvo Description: Used 2021 Toyota Supra 3.0 RWD for sale - $53,481 - 9,237 miles with Leather Seats, Navigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Alloy Wheels, Technology Package, Toyota supra 2021, Adaptive Suspension, Backup Camera, Heat Package, Heated Seats Certified Pre-Owned: No Transmission: Automatic Color: Unknown Description: Used 2022 Toyota Supra A91-CF Edition RWD for sale - $68,987 - 734 miles with Leather Seats, Navigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Alloy Wheels, Bluetooth, Adaptive Suspension, Backup Camera, Blind Spot Monitoring, Parking Sensors, Heated Seats, CarPlay Certified Pre-Owned: No Transmission: Automatic Color: Gray Description: Used 2020 Toyota Supra Premium Launch Edition RWD for sale - $55,450 - 12,511 miles with Leather Seats, Navigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Alloy Wheels, Bluetooth, Adaptive Suspension, Backup Camera, Blind Spot Monitoring, Premium Package Certified Pre-Owned: Yes Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic Color: Unknown Description: Used 2021 Toyota Supra 3.0 RWD for sale - $58,424 - 3,475 miles with Leather Seats, Navigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Alloy Wheels, Technology Package, Adaptive Suspension, Premium Wheels, Blind Spot Monitoring, Parking Sensors, Heated Seats, Multi Zone Climate Control, Bluetooth, Backup Camera Certified Pre-Owned: No Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic Color: Yellow
1/29 2021 Toyota Supra 3.0 - Cars.com photo by Joe Bruzek The verdict: The 2021 Toyota Supra’s new four-cylinder makes the sporty coupe more accessible, but the six-cylinder’s attitude and raucousness is the best way to get the Supra experience.

Versus the competition: It’s the Supra’s wild design and nostalgia that make it unique versus any objective performance numbers. Only one year after being reintroduced to the world, the 2021 Toyota Supra has a lot of new stuff going on, including a new entry-level turbocharged four-cylinder version and a beefed-up, more powerful turbo six.

Named the GR Supra 2.0, the 2.0-liter four-cylinder’s 255 horsepower looks pretty weak on paper. Just 255 hp? In a Supra? After all, a Toyota Camry family sedan’s V-6 has 301 hp, and the Toyota supra 2021 Supra 3.0 with a six-cylinder now has 382 hp. However, this is a classic case of how specs can be misleading. Related: 2020 Toyota Supra First Drive: More Than the Sum of Its Parts The not-so-secret is that the Supra’s new turbocharged 2.0-liter, like the six-cylinder, is BMW-sourced; pop off the spiffy Toyota engine cover and you’ll be greeted with many BMW logos on harnesses, hoses and modules.

Because it’s a BMW engine, the paltry 255-hp rating feels like a much more substantial 300 hp. Having a rated 295 pounds-feet of torque helps, too. In other BMWs, this engine out-accelerates its rating, so we think either 255 hp is conservative or the driveline that delivers power to the road is unfathomably efficient — and it’s a similar story in the new four-cylinder Supra.

How the Supra 2.0-Liter Accelerates 2021 Toyota Supra - Cars.com photo by Joe Bruzek The 2.0-liter has the grunt I’ve always wanted from the Toyota sports car formerly known as the Scion FR-S, currently called the Toyota supra 2021 86.

Toyota says the four-cylinder Supra is an intermediate model between the 86 and the Supra six-cylinder. The four-cylinder Supra does feel like a heavier Toyota 86 with some real gusto under the hood, though it’s missing the lightness (the Supra 2.0 is 400 pounds heavier) and sharpness that make the 86 such an entertaining ride, even sans 50 hp; maybe it’s only the tight confines that feel 86-ish.

Supra 2.0 pricing hasn’t been announced, but I wouldn’t count on it being very intermediary because this is, after all, still a BMW-based model ( BMW Z4).

Toyota says 0-60 mph is 5.0 seconds for the four-cylinder, which compares with 4.1 seconds of the 2020 Supra six-cylinder and 3.9 seconds for the updated 2021 Supra six. All Supras use the same eight-speed automatic transmission toyota supra 2021 the gearing) that clicks off quick, crisp shifts and is rarely tripped up. What You Don’t Get in the Supra 2.0 1/4 2021 Toyota Supra 3.0 - Cars.com photo by Joe Bruzek Making the Supra 2.0 more affordable de-contented it in a way that doesn’t change the way it looks or feels to most people, but for the discriminating enthusiast, it’s all in the details.

The front brakes go from four-piston fixed caliper Brembos to a single-piston floating caliper, and the front brake rotors shrink from 13.7 to 13.0 inches.

The tire models are the same — Michelin Pilot Super Sports — though in 18 versus 19 inches in diameter, but with identical tread width. What’s not the same is the wheel’s construction, which on the 19-inchers is the more desirable forged aluminum versus the four-cylinder’s cast aluminum.

2021 Toyota Supra 2.0 - Cars.com photo by Joe Bruzek In addition to missing 127 hp from the new six-cylinder, you also lose the option of a head-up display, heated seats and adaptive cruise control. The six’s standard adjustable-firmness suspension is replaced by a fixed one and there are no power seats.

Say goodbye to a limited-slip differential, and the under-hood strut-tower braces that are new in the 3.0 don’t show up here, though they seem like an easy add-on later if you decide. Also lost are 219 pounds of curb weight compared with the six-cylinder.

Supra 2.0 Ride and Handling 2021 Toyota Supra 2.0 - Cars.com photo by Joe Bruzek The Supra 2.0 has more of a comfort vibe versus the playful aggressiveness of the Supra 3.0. So much of the Supra’s appeal is in its bratty six-cylinder that snarls, pops and screams. The four-cylinder, while proficient and with respectable acceleration, doesn’t have the same mischievousness of the six or the turbo fours found in a Honda Civic Type R or Ford Focus RS.

It also doesn’t have the eagerness in handling, exhibiting slower reactions and a bit more body roll. While I haven’t driven the Supra 2.0 on the track, I don’t think track duty would suit the entry-level car as well considering its more casual feel and downgraded brake calipers, rotors and lack of a limited-slip differential.

Four-Cylinder What? 2021 Toyota Supra 3.0 - Cars.com photo by Joe Bruzek Speaking of the 2021 six-cylinder, I drove one of those too after spending a few weeks in the 2020. The extra 47 hp (from 335 to 382 hp) is a noticeable jump that’s felt high up in the rev range where acceleration doesn’t peak as quickly as in the previous engine.

It feels like there’s more life up top, and max power is made between 5,800 and 6,500 rpm versus 5,000 and 6,500 rpm for the 2020’s 335 hp.

Around town, the difference is negligible, and it remains a responsive, fast-acting engine eager to set free all 382 hp. Torque is up only 3 pounds-feet to 368, starting at 1,800 rather than 1,600 rpm. Toyota attributes the 14% increase in power to a new exhaust manifold design and a revised piston that reduces the compression ratio from 11:1 to 10.2:1, allowing for more combustion control during high boost.

Chassis tweaks include ways to increase roll resistance and enhance cornering stability with aluminum under-hood braces that link each strut tower to a radiator support, as well as tuning of the electric power steering, adaptive suspension, active differential and electronic stability system. The result?

You won’t likely notice it on the street or when not at the car’s limit. I didn’t observe any transformative handling during street driving, and I suspect they’re differences you’d most be able to discern on a track driving the 2020 and 2021 back-to-back. 1/4 2021 Toyota Supra 3.0 - Cars.com photo by Joe Bruzek One thing that hasn’t been tweaked, however, is the awful wind buffeting effect around 45 mph with the windows down. You’ll have to fix that one yourself through any number of aftermarket options or get creative during a hardware store run.

Truth be told, I’ve been slow to find appreciation for the Supra, even after driving three different versions in the space of a few weeks. The 2020 base car was $52,000, so I expect the new model with upgrades to cost more.

My entry-level Supra 3.0 didn’t have Apple CarPlay or adaptive cruise control — you know, things that come standard on $20,000 Toyotas (the downside of being BMW-based). I don’t think the Supra has many performance advantages compared with a less expensive car like the Ford Mustang GT with one of its Performance packages (your pick, 1 or 2), Chevrolet Camaro SS with Magnetic Ride Control (or 1LE) or even a Honda Civic Type R — I’ve clocked a 10-speed auto Mustang GT at 3.9 seconds to 60 mph and a six-speed manual Camaro SS at 4.3 seconds.

2021 Toyota Supra 3.0 - Cars.com photo by Joe Bruzek What the Supra does have, however, is a wild flair and a good bit of attitude. In factory form, rather toyota supra 2021 all-out performance, this car uses style, image and nostalgia to tug at your heartstrings. And that’s why I think the four-cylinder might still be an all right car — it has all the looks of the more desirable Supra 3.0 and you’ll get just as many head turns in a four-cylinder as a bright yellow six-cylinder.

It’s unfortunate for six-cylinder owners looking for exclusivity, especially for 2020 Supra owners who got bamboozled out of 47 hp. If you can swing it, the 2021 six-cylinder is no doubt the way to go with its snarling exhaust, more track-ready parts and snappy performance. The 2021 Supra 3.0 goes on sale at the end of June with limited availability (only 400 made it to the U.S. before COVID-19-related production stoppage), and the Supra 2.0 goes on sale in the fall.

There are a few interior issues (no sunglasses holder, no sync in climate control, no support for Android Auto) but no deal breakers and everything else is just so awesome.

It grips the road and has amazing acceleration. The gas mileage is actually quite good! I was not attracted to the GR Supra initially. I was not sure of the exterior styling and the co-development with BMW. The GR Supra was right in my price range and budget so I decided to test drive it.

I test drove the 3.0 Premium model. I was blow away by the refinement and smoothness of the engine and transmission. The engine makes a lot of power without any noticeable turbo lag. Lots of usable torque. The ZF 8-speed automatic transmission was among the very best torque converter automatics I have ever tried. It's better then BMW's dual clutch automatic, much smoother and refined.

And it shifts up and down at super fast times. It's a better transmission then the BMW DCT. The suspension is supple in normal mode and VERY planted in SPORT mode. In normal mode the car rides super smooth and very quiet for a sports car. It would make a awesome GT Car for road trips. You can easily do many hours behind the wheel in the super adjustable power seats. SPORT MODE transforms the car from Clark Kent to Superman. The steering, suspension, engine mapping, exhaust is totally different.

It's like a totally different car. The exhaust in SPORT MODE cracks and pops like a race car. LOTS OF FUN The only negatives I can think of? The wind noise over 50 mph with the windows down is insane. It sounds and feels toyota supra 2021 opening a door in a air plane or something?

Watch your head getting in and out. You will knock you head until you get used to contorting to get in and out. The exterior styling took time for me to get used to. I like it more and more every time I see it.

The biggest negative might not be a issue but it would always be in the back of my mind. I am a little worried about Toyota's reputation for legendary bulletproof reliability because it is a joint venture with a not so reliable BMW? I supposed you can always buy a Toyota Extended Warranty? Overall the 3.0 GR Supra is a bargain for it's refinement and performance.

The BMW sourced turbo charged engine and ZF transmission toyota supra 2021 silky smooth. The revised 2021 suspension, steering, etc is noticeable and makes the Supra even better. Not too many cars at this price point are this fun. Toyota and BMW hit it out of the park!

Possibly you even paid more than sticker price to be first. If this describes you, if you're among the 4100 people in the United States who bought a 2020 Supra, then Toyota's changes for the 2021 model year are going to hurt.

Our Toyota Supra 3.0 Was a Three-Season Thrill First, a small bit of good news for you first-year buyers: There aren't a lot of visible differences between the 2020 and 2021 cars, so you're not missing out there. But the new one does get aluminum braces that tie together the strut towers and core support, borrowed from the BMW Z4 M40i version of this car. It also sees a healthy boost of 47 more horses for the six-cylinder model, to 382 horsepower, and Toyota added a 255-hp four-cylinder to the menu.

HIGHS: More powerful six, hits 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, Toyota's version of a BMW is better than BMW's. For the six, that jump in power over last year's 335-hp rating consists of more than just software changes to the BMW-sourced turbocharged 3.0-liter. It uses a new cylinder head with a fully separate exhaust manifold—the 2020's is partially integrated—and has revised pistons to reduce the compression ratio from 11.0:1 to 10.2:1.

The drop in cylinder pressure is offset by increased boost from a larger turbocharger. And if BMW's recent revisions to similar engines in its lineup are anything to go by, then this inline-six likely has a stronger crankshaft, too. The result is an impressive 382 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. If those numbers sound familiar, that's because those outputs are identical to the Z4 Toyota supra 2021. It appears the Germans may have wanted to hold back their best stuff, at least initially, because Toyota tells us it couldn't get this engine for the 2020 Supra.

Marc Urbano Car and Driver From the first poke of the accelerator, the difference is not obvious. There's still no manual transmission, but the eight-speed automatic's 2000-rpm launch-control limiter makes getting to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds easy.

That time, however, is 0.1 second slower than before. The 3.0-liter pulls hard across the entire sweep of the tach to the 7000-rpm redline. The extra power is more clearly seen at higher speeds. The quarter-mile passes in 12.1 seconds at 117 mph, a tenth of a second quicker and 4 mph faster than toyota supra 2021 2020 car. We also noted that the engine's exhaust note is more mature, Toyota having toned down the crackle-and-pop theatrics a bit. Steering responses feel a hair crisper, as Toyota revised the steering calibration to make the effort buildup more linear as cornering loads increase.

The electronically controlled dampers receive some massaging, and on our favorite roads, the updated Supra doesn't bottom out its suspension as often when flung into high-speed heaves. Its tail end also remains glued to the ground under hard cornering, which is new. There's more understeer on the skidpad, which resulted in a reduction in grip, from 1.07 g's down to 1.02. Marc Urbano Car and Driver For a car this powerful and quick, the Supra is remarkably efficient.

The EPA estimates the revised 3.0-liter will achieve 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, down 2 and 1 mpg, respectively, from the 2020's numbers. Our test car averaged 22 mpg over 350 miles of driving that included plenty of full-throttle hits, and on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test, it managed an excellent 34 mpg. Last year's Supra achieved 36 mpg in the same test. The more powerful 2021 model might not sit well with last year's Supra buyers, but new owners might someday come to feel a tinge of regret, too, as Toyota says it's far from done with the Supra.

But don't let that stop you from enjoying the fun now. The new Supra goes on sale in August and will start at $51,945, $1000 more than last year's model—a minor price bump for a more powerful engine.

The Toyota GR Supra has been on the market for two years now, giving folks time to adjust to the idea of a Supra with BMW DNA.

Yes, the current Supra was born out of a development partnership between Toyota and BMW, and it uses many BMW parts. Once you get over that fact, you can enjoy toyota supra 2021 Supra for what it is: a sharp-handling sports car that feels as at home on an open stretch of highway as it does on a winding mountain road. Last year, Toyota expanded the lineup with the addition of the GR Supra 2.0, a variant powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

For 2022, the automaker adds new standard equipment and a limited-production A91-Carbon Fiber edition. The GR Supra isn't cheap, but it's a performance bargain compared to the Porsche 718 Cayman, one of the Supra's only direct competitors until the redesigned 2023 Nissan Z arrives.

Check out our detailed Expert Rating to see how it stacks up against its rivals. Edmunds' Expert Rating The Edmunds Vehicle Testing Team evaluates a fresh batch of vehicles every week, pairing objective assessments at our test track with real-world driving on city streets, freeways and winding roads. The data we gather results in our Expert Ratings. They’re based on 30-plus scores that cover every aspect of the automotive experience. Toyota made a prudent business decision and partnered with BMW to engineer the new Supra.

Unlike its predecessor, the new Supra devours curves as much as it loves a wide open road. The Supra's value proposition — offering comparable performance to a Porsche Cayman for a considerably lower price — is certain to appeal to typical car fanatics.

And we think it looks pretty sharp too. It's definitely worth considering if you're in the market for a sports car. The Supras of the past were more about straight-line speed than nimble toyota supra 2021, but this latest incarnation succeeds at both.

In Edmunds' testing, our Supra in Premium trim rocketed to 60 mph in a quick 4.4 seconds. A power bump for toyota supra 2021 makes traction off the line a bit more scarce but improves the Supra's top end by a noticeable margin. Around turns, the steering wheel communicates a fair amount of information from the front tires to your hands, and the revised tuning makes it respond more naturally.

The revised suspension is also better at retaining grip but feels no less lively, meaning better cornering and less of an immediate tendency to oversteer. The brakes and sticky tires can haul the Supra to a stop from 60 mph in just 105 feet, though for heavier use, like track driving, it would probably benefit from upgraded brake pads. The Supra isn't strictly a weekend car, however. It's something you can drive with little effort every day.

The seats provide excellent support, but you might find them a bit confining around your shoulders. It's not too noticeable when driving at speed, but it's apparent when cruising around. The leather upholstery isn't perforated, so its breathability isn't great. The ride quality is firm but not harsh. Because you sit so close to the rear axle, big vertical movements feel more pronounced.

We wouldn't call this a quiet cabin since there's a fair amount of road and wind noise, but it's not unpleasantly loud either. It lets in the right amount of induction noise and exhaust burbles when you're driving in Sport mode. Toyota supra 2021 for the climate control system, there's no obvious way to sync its two zones, which is odd. It could stand to be a tick stronger at max fan speed too. Those familiar with BMW's older iDrive system will feel right at home with the Supra's infotainment.

But if you're a first-time user, you'll need to get acquainted with the system's menu layout. All other controls are pretty straightforward. The Supra's doors are a little shorter than average and fairly light.

Even if you're of average height, you may need to watch your head, but at least the seat bolsters don't impede access. In general, spaciousness is not this car's greatest strength.

The Porsche Cayman and BMW M2, for example, do a better job of making a cockpit feel roomy. The navigation system is pretty good at understanding natural language commands, and it locates specific points of interest without an address. It's easy to use the voice commands to set up your route. Our test Supra had the 12-speaker premium audio system. The audio quality is fine, but it lacks the fullness we'd expect for an upgrade system. As for integration, there's one USB port, an optional wireless charger and wireless Apple CarPlay.

Android Auto is now offered. The Supra's adaptive cruise control is optional, and it works effectively. It's more aggressive than most systems and can keep a small gap between you and the car ahead if you want it to. It also works all the way down to a stop. Lane keeping assist isn't quite as effective. It'll mitigate lane crossing but doesn't really keep you centered.

Sports cars are usually compromised when it comes to cargo space, and the Supra is no exception. The Supra has less trunk space (10.2 cubic feet) than the Porsche Cayman and the BMW M2.

There is toyota supra 2021 cargo pass-through to the cabin that you can use when hauling longer items. But you'll have to rest those items on the rear-suspension tower brace. The small-item storage space is even more deficient in the toyota supra 2021. The cupholders are located where an armrest bin would typically be.

And if you store drinks in them, they will interfere with operating the infotainment system controls. A wireless device charging pad is standard on Premium models and up, but plus-size phones won't really fit in it. The door pockets and glovebox are also small. Fuel efficiency is not an area we expected the Supra to shine in, but shine it does.

It returns an EPA-estimated 25 mpg combined. In our testing, we observed an impressive 29 mpg on our 115-mile evaluation loop. This matches what we observed in a 2020 Supra even though this newer model gains 47 additional horsepower. This also trounces the BMW M2 Competition (20 mpg combined) and even outperforms the base-model Porsche Cayman (24 mpg combined).

The Supra's cabin looks more BMW than Toyota, but it's still a pleasant space that delivers a luxury-level look and feel. The carbon-fiber trim that's included in all six-cylinder cars is a nice touch, and it helps make the Supra seem a bit more special than your average coupe. Even if you buy the base-level Supra with the four-cylinder, you're getting a heck of a toyota supra 2021.

Toyota's warranty coverage is a trade-off compared to competitors. There's less bumper-to-bumper coverage but better powertrain coverage. Two years of scheduled maintenance is also included. The new Supra mostly delivers on its promises.

Sure, there is a lot of obvious BMW DNA here, but that doesn't make it any less of a car if you value performance and swoopy styling. The Supra's appeal is undeniable for the price. It's properly quick and lively, yet it's also mostly comfortable enough to be your daily driver so long as you don't need to take much with you or spend a lot of time on bad roads. Which GR Supra does Edmunds recommend?

The 2022 Toyota GR Supra is a two-seat sport coupe available in four trim levels: base 2.0, 3.0, 3.0 Premium and A91-CF Edition. The base Supra 2.0 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque), while all other trims use a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder (382 hp, 368 lb-ft).

Both engines come connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and send power to the rear wheels, though a six-speed manual is expected to arrive on 2.0 models later in the year.

The styling is eye catching.

toyota supra 2021

But let's be honest even the dopest Super Model has flaws.I had a gaggle of people around my car at work, people rolling their car windows down complementing me or giving me thumbs up or simple expressing their like of the car. Not that it truly matters because I find this car simply sexy at all angels. The interior is about that sports car life.

I had a Dodge Conquest TSI back in the 80's and cars of that generation lead t the bloat of sports cars in the 90s before SUVs started killing them off. So to address the elephant in the room now, this is a Toyota Supra not a BMW. True the interior maybe like most of the parts Bimmer, but it has that Supra soul and you can tell Toyota hands their hands all in the mix. Clean interior, high quality materials, and laid out intelligently with a minimalist touch, Feng shui.

Interior noise, it's a sports car I have a 2018 A5 Sport back Prestige and it's that quiet luxury, different tool. The ride can be set to normal and it behaves like a super heroes alter ego, but when sport mode is selected the beast is unleashed. The quality of this vehicle all around is amazing. All reviews are subjective to the person giving them. My search was for a sports car with that old sports car rawness. Sure the Corvette is out there but I've never been a big America car fan.

True there is the so called elites status of the European vehicles, but the reliability and quality of a brand like Toyota was a tremendous selling point for me.

5 year 60K warranty.yeah man. Funny thing is I toyota supra 2021 to a rain soaked Hackensack, NJ to purchase a car I never test drove. Not once even rode in one. That's a first for me after owning I believe 15 vehicles. 1st real wheel drive vehicle, my last four being AWD. This car did not disappoint It performed nicely, I took it easy to observe the 1,200 mile break-in period of staying below 100 MPHnot revving over 4500 RPM and hard breaking (the breaks are strong).

Impressive vehicle all around especially when the competition is nearly $20K more. I drove from Hackensack, NJ to Augusta, GA, yeah. Comfortable and tempting to to push her to the limits.I behaved. Now that I'm wll over 1200k miles oh what a thrill!! Handling power, braking, ride, comfort.true the entry exit takes a little getting use to but I had the same with my Audi. And I toyota supra 2021 the Supra everyday to work and to teach. My Audi is in the car hospital.

KURT NIEBUHR: This video is being shot in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. While it's important that we adhere to the strict guidelines given to us by scientists and medical professionals, I think it's also important to look ahead and think about something else for a while. [MUSIC PLAYING] So let's talk about cars.

Cars are cool, right? And they're certainly better than a pandemic. I should also note that I'm here by myself, because Edmunds is adhering to the strict social distancing guidelines. So I am going to apologize for the wonky camera work-- [SCRAPING MICROPHONE] That'll help. --the iffy sound-- I don't know if this is picking up sound or not-- and general lack of overall polish and professionalism-- Thinking about the four-wheel drive pickup truck, huh, so you could go 10 miles an hour under the speed limit.

--that you have become accustomed to toyota supra 2021 the Edmunds.com video team. But I've been assured that we can fix all that in post. [MUSIC STOPS] Right, guys? [CRICKETS] [BLEEP] I'm here by myself. And for that extra little sprinkling, it's raining in Los Angeles. So the one 24-hour period that we have toyota supra 2021 to this specific car, it's raining. But that's not going to stop me. And we're going to review the 2021 Toyota GR Supra 2.0, because it has a 2-liter engine.

[MUSIC PLAYING] Well, guess what, there's not much to talk about in the interior from a standpoint of what's new, because the 2-liter Supra basically takes everything from the 3-liter Supra, with a few main exceptions. There is no heads-up display. There are no sport pedals. Who cares? For some reason a lower-powered USB port in this version than the 3-liter version.

Also, the 2-liter version comes with manual seats, not power seats. So-- [CLICKING] --yeah, manual. Toyota supra 2021 8.8-inch screen is standard equipment, but it does not include touchscreen capability unless you opt for the safety and technology package.

That's what this car has in it. The safety and tech package gives you touchscreen compatibility, it gives your navigation, it gives you adaptive cruise control with start/stop capability, blind spot monitoring, toyota supra 2021 safety bits. And it also gives you a 12-speaker JBL audio system. I don't know where they put 12 speakers in this car.

I've been able to count seven. So there's still five speakers that are unaccounted for. A side note-- if you're a real fan of 1980s sound staging, the base audio system has four speakers. If only it had a cassette deck. But this car is not about what's on the inside, it's about what's under the hood. So I'm going to unpark myself and hit the road.

[CLICK, ENGINE TURNS OVER, CHIME SOUNDS] As previously mentioned, I am self-shooting this, so there's no one else out here to help me, which means there's nobody who's getting soaked by the side of the road and making me look good because I come driving by. So there's not a lot of exterior action shots.

Actually, there aren't any. As a result, I would kindly ask that we throw to some beautiful B roll in a warmer, sunnier climate. So this 2-liter engine, like the 3-liter engine in the larger, more powerful Supra, as well as the rest of this car, all come from a certain southern German automotive manufacturer. This is a pretty robust little unit.

255 horsepower, 295 foot pounds of torque. And that torque is everywhere. It's just off idle to about 4,400 RPMS, something like that. I had a chance to drive the BMW Z4 with that engine-- with this engine-- in it, and found it to be more than adequate for that car. We did test it at the Edmunds test track last year. And it hit toyota supra 2021 to 60 in 5.3 seconds. 5 seconds flat for the rollout. Quarter mile was like 13.6, around just over 100 miles an hour.

That's adequate. That's more than adequate. This motor is toyota supra 2021 fine, especially in conditions like this. There's not much else in the class that's going to be significantly quicker than this 2-liter Supra. Lots of torque. You really don't even need to shift up that much.

You can just use one gear. Even on a road like this, leave it in third, 3,500 RPM, and just lean on it. Ah, good, good, good, good. Special shout-out to this car's traction control, which is superb in the rain. It's helping me accelerate. It is quelling wheel-spin.

Still able to put the power down. The car's moving its tail around a little bit, but it's never getting out of shape. That's just one tap on the stability control switch, in case you'd like to try this at home, which I encourage. Now, the 2-liter and 3-liter Supras share quite a bit in terms of parts, including the transmission, which is literally the same transmission, even down to the ratios for every gear.

And I understand cost-cutting and money-saving. But it would be nice if the gear ratios were specific to the 2-liter, and I'll tell you why. I was not really aware in the 6-cylinder that second gear seemed a little short and third gear seemed a little tall.

But with the 2-liter, there's just not the same amount of power that the 3-liter has, so that gap toyota supra 2021 the upshifts becomes all the more apparent. With its own specific ratios, this car would be phenomenal. Now I know and you know that this car should come with a manual transmission. That would be a wondrous thing. But it seems to me the only manual they could really use would be the one out of an M2. That's not a bad transmission. But if it had a BMW manual transmission in it too, there would be no hope.

This would just basically be a rebadged Beemer. And it's not like Toyota can just whip up a manual transmission.

They don't really make them anymore. I mean, yeah, they have them in a Tacoma. And the manual transmission in the Corolla hatchback is actually-- it's genuinely fun. It's really good. But to handle the power of the Supra, Toyota would have to make their own manual transmission. And if it's not really good, it might not sell.

And then Toyota would stop making this car. So long story short, yeah, I wish they had a manual. But I'm glad the car exists even if it exists without one. Does it feel any different from the 6-cylinder Supra? Well, it's been a while since I've driven that. But I have to be honest, the front end on this car does feel lighter.

It feels more immediate without being forced. It's not like this car has an aggressive alignment, and that's why it changes direction so well.

The nose goes where you want it to go. And it goes quickly and accurately. On tighter roads like this, you know, I might take this over the 6-cylinder car. You can never have too much steering feel, especially in the wet. But unfortunately that's not a good way to start a review about the steering. This Supra carries over the power steering from the 3-liter version, and that carries over BMW's electric power steering, which is also kind of devoid of feel, especially right off center.

toyota supra 2021

That's kind of the crucial part when you're driving in the rain. Because you're usually not going fast enough to feel the lack of traction at the front. So you want everything to come through the wheel, and it's just not coming through the wheel for me.

I wish there was more feel, in the rain and out of the rain. [MUSIC PLAYING] And now, with no concern for critical continuity, we're back. Now we're in the 3-liter Supra. Different color. I've changed most of my clothes. The roads are the same. The weather is slightly better. And oh yeah, I have a lot more power. [ENGINE PURRING] [CHUCKLES] Here's a helpful spotters guide on how to tell a 2-liter Supra from a 3-liter Supra.

The easiest way to tell, obviously, are going to be the wheels. The 2-liter toyota supra 2021 comes with 18 by 9's on the front and 18 by 10's in the rear. The 3-liter Supra comes with 19 by 9's in the front and 19 by 10's in the rear.

3-liter Supras also have a larger front brake-- 13.7 inches in the front, as opposed to 13.0 in the toyota supra 2021 for a 2-liter model. Another way to tell the cars apart are their outside rearview mirrors. 2-liter toyota supra 2021 have glossy black, while 3-liter cars have matte black. Now, if you get the A91, which is a special edition 3-liter car, you get black satin. So either way you look at it, all the mirrors are black, it's just how they're finished.

Some people care. Another easy way to tell a 2-liter from a 3-liter apart is the exhaust outlets. On a 2-liter car, they're polished stainless steel exhaust tips. On a 3-liter car, they're brushed stainless steel exhaust tips. All about the details. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let's talk about the engine. For 2021, Toyota claims that this car is now making 47 more horsepower, up to 382. And we suspect that that's probably what the car was making all along.

More on that later. Also, the car makes 3 foot pounds of torque more. It's up to 368 from 365. Most of that new power can be attributed to a redesigned exhaust manifold. And they've also engineered in some extra longevity into the engine by redesigning the pistons and lowering compression, which seems counterintuitive, but that means that there's less toyota supra 2021 a chance of detonation at full boost and higher RPM. So thanks for making the car last longer-- hopefully.

Back to that bit about claimed horsepower. We had a Supra at our test track last year. And the numbers that it put out seemed to be suspiciously better than what a rear-wheel-drive car toyota supra 2021 335 horsepower could deliver. Zero to 60, I think, was like 4.3 seconds, 3.9 with a foot of rollout. And the quarter mile was 12.5, and 110.4 miles an hour.

That's silly fast. I know toyota supra 2021 the car only weighs 3,400 pounds, but that's still considerably quicker than we expected it. So we thought that Toyota was probably underrating the car's performance. Or maybe all the press cars got a little bit of a sprinkling of extra power here and there.

Either way, it'll be interesting to get this car toyota supra 2021 to our test track once the coronavirus thing has settled and see what the new power numbers actually mean for real performance. So it isn't all about the engine for 2021. Toyota has made a couple changes and tweaks to help the car's handling, which it didn't really need any help with handling. But anyway, up front, there are two new aluminum suspension braces.

They kind of look like pipes. That's to help rigidity. They've redesigned the front and rear bump stops. But they've re-tuned the car's electric power steering. And that's something that I kind of had a problem with in the 2-liter car yesterday in the rain. So I'm hoping that gets better for this year. Toyota has also retooled the shocks as well as the active differential.

Now, the active differential is something that the 2h liter car does not come with. So it will be interesting to see how all of these changes add up, and to see if it's something that I can actually notice. So let's get to a good road and see what's what. [ENGINE PURRING] To nobody's surprise, the 3-liter version is much more serious than the 2-liter version.

It's not just for the engine. Because that suspension, all those changes I mentioned they made, they paid off. This car is not like it was last year. There is just better control over the body. The re-tuning of the shocks is probably largely responsible for that, because this car is so much more planted, where the 2-liter could kind of like bounce around on this road. Right there, it would hop around in the rear.

Your head would hit the headrest every so often. This is much better controlled. If there is a reason to buy the 3-liter over the 2-liter, it's probably the suspension. It's really good. So now can I notice a difference with the re-tuned power steering? I like the weighting. I think the weighting isn't the same as it is in the 2-liter. This feels slightly heavier, but in the right way. And I just don't think I'm going fast enough to get the feel for the feedback at the limit.

I'm OK with not going fast enough right now because the weather has deteriorated considerably. So now it's pretty much like it was yesterday.

And this car is much, much faster than the 2-liter. You know what? I like the differentiation between the 2-liter and 3-liter models. I like how more money buys you more cylinders, gives you more power and more performance. And it's real-world performance, too, it's not the kind of performance that you have to split hairs over.

Do I wish this were toyota supra 2021 of a Toyota? I guess. I think I just wanted to be more different than the Z4. But again, I understand cost sharing. And if it means that we have to choose between two sports cars, I'd rather have that choice than not at all.

Options are good, especially when the options are good. At the time of shooting this video, pricing has not yet been released. But bear with me. I'm going to go out on a limb, and I'm going to say that the 2-liter version is going to cost less than the 3-liter, maybe by several thousand dollars.

To get updated pricing information, keep checking back with Edmunds. We'll tell you how much it costs. See what I did there? I threw it back to the website.

Yeah, professional. So it's a little weird to be giving a conclusion about a car that I'm not currently driving. But you know what? You can count me as a fan of the 2-liter Supra. It's comfortable, it's capable, it's really nicely balanced, and it's well-rounded enough that you can use it every single day. And if you like doing sports car stuff-- going to a track day, doing some autocross, it'll do that too. There's not much change on it, except maybe the name. I'd call it the Celica Supra-- you know, old school.

It offers excellent handling and steering feel, a driver-centric interior and more than enough power with the 4.0-liter flat-six. But to get that engine, you'll need to spend more than $30,000 above the GR Supra 3.0 Premium's starting price. You could get a base turbo-four version toyota supra 2021 the Cayman for slightly more than the Supra, but we don’t recommend toyota supra 2021.

Compare Toyota GR Toyota supra 2021 & Porsche 718 Cayman features Toyota GR Supra vs. BMW Z4 The BMW Z4 is the Supra's platform mate and development partner.

They're very similar mechanically save for one obvious difference: The Z4 is a convertible. Apart from that, the Z4 is priced higher and gets a newer version of BMW's iDrive infotainment system. The Supra features unique transmission and steering tuning, which helps make it feel more lively. Because it doesn't have to stow its roof, the Supra offers slightly more trunk space, though its trunk is still on the small side.

Compare Toyota GR Supra & BMW Z4 features Toyota GR Supra vs. Toyota GR86 Toyota has two GR-branded sports cars in its lineup, and ironically neither one is 100% Toyota. The GR86 was developed in collaboration with Subaru and as such is powered by a 228-hp flat four-cylinder engine.

The base GR Supra 2.0 starts $10,000 higher than the GR86, and for that money, you get a turbocharged inline-four with more power and torque and better response down low in the revs. Both handle exceptionally well, but the GR86 might be just a hair better thanks to a lower center of gravity. Though toyota supra 2021 GR86 has a back seat, it's best reserved for children or luggage. Compare Toyota GR Supra & Toyota GR86 features When the Supra name returned in 2020, Toyota had some explaining to do.

Designed and built in partnership with BMW, the Supra sported outspoken, controversial styling and used a BMW engine and transmission. But it was soon clear that the Supra was no BMW. It possessed its own unique character, and its impressive abilities all but overshadowed the many interior parts sourced from BMW.

In 2021, Toyota gave the Supra a fairly large power bump and an optional suspension that ostensibly tamed the car's somewhat wild, but always thrilling, handling characteristics. For 2022, Toyota rolls out the A91-CF Edition — the "CF" stands for "Carbon Fiber." It, not surprisingly, features carbon-fiber aerodynamic bits, such as the front splitter, side rockers and rear spoiler.

Built off the 3.0 Premium trim, the A91-CF also gets a red and black interior and its own unique wheel design, and it's available in three colors: Absolute Zero, Nitro Yellow and Phantom Matte Grey. Production will be limited to 600 units. Other changes for 2022 include standard heated seats on the 3.0 trim level and full-screen Apple CarPlay smartphone capability on the 3.0 Premium trim.

The Toyota Supra is a potent performer, and for 2022 it receives a handful of changes as well as a limited-run special edition to keep things interesting. To that end, unless you want the exclusivity of the A91-CF Edition, we think now is as good a time as ever to get behind the wheel of Toyota's capable coupe.
