Videocon Mobile Services & Connect employees donate blood to celebrate Independence Day
Organize Blood Donation Camp in Punjab for thalassemic patients
Punjab, August 14, 2010: Videocon GSM Mobile Services and Connect painted the town red this Independence Day by holding a Blood Donation Camp in Punjab for thalassemic patients especially children, who require blood transfusion throughout their life. Leading by example, the employees themselves kicked off the donation. About 101 units of blood were collected as a part of this cause.
The camp was organized in association with the Department Of Transfusion Medicine –PGIMER and State Blood Transfusion Council – Chandigarh. Mr. Arvind Jalota – Associate Vice President (Corporate), Mr. Prem Ojha – Associate Vice President (Business Operations) and Mr. Sanjay Bahl – General Manager (Marketing), Connect were among the first to donate blood.
Employees of the GSM service provider Videocon Mobile Services and Wireline & Broadband provider Connect had a sense of purpose and pride. Mr. Arvind Jalota, Associate Vice President (Corporate) who was among the first to donate shared, “As citizens of India, we have a responsibility towards our fellow citizens. Videocon Mobile Services & Connect wanted to do something for fellow citizens this Independence Day. We also wanted people to be part of this initiative. So we thought of holding this Blood Donation Camp. To encourage people towards the noble cause, the senior leaders of the organization too, donated blood at the camp.”
Dr Usha Rao from PGIMER along with her team collected the blood and motivated employees to voluntarily donate by clearing doubts and myths about blood donation. She said, “Proper care was being taken while scrutinizing the donor and his/her medical history. The blood collected was then also screened for infectious agents such as Hepatitis B, C and HIV.”
Commenting on the social initiative, Mr PDS Bajwa, Business Head, Videocon Mobile Services said “Videocon believes in constantly contributing to the society. We drive and support such initiatives. We also like to create opportunities for our employees to contribute. This blood donation camp was one such opportunity. It was a moment of pride for all our employees, a chance to give back to society in their own little way on this Independence Day.”
