Android smartphone owners can finally enjoy the Beats brand with a product that integrates well with their phones. Workout enthusiasts will appreciate the light and portable case, IPX4 water-resistant buds, and active noise cancellation (ANC) and transparency modes. Students can take this set of earbuds anywhere. They take up very little room, can be charged quickly, and cost less than the AirPods or AirPods Pro. As the packaging on the Beats Studio Buds states, great sound starts with a proper fit.

Beats supplies you with three sizes of silicone ear tips, so most people should be able to attain a tight seal. Since the earbuds are a featherweight 5g and barely stick out of the ear, they stay comfortably in place without the worry of falling out even during intense workouts. A clickable button on either earbud controls music playback, including volume control. It’s a lot more reliable than the touch controls found on other true wireless earbuds.

Automatic ear detection is also missing from the Studio Buds, so media playback keeps going even when you remove one or both earpieces.

However, you can toggle between ANC and transparency mode from the earbuds, iOS Settings app, or Beats app on Android. Transparency mode lets you hear your surroundings as if you weren’t wearing earbuds at all. Using the Beats app, you can toggle between listening modes, customize the onboard earbud controls, and rename the earbuds.

If you’re struggling to connect the headphones to your device, the app is a great help. However, the Beats app doesn’t offer much after that initial setup phase—it’s mostly a set-it-and-forget-it kind of thing. Pressing the pairing button on the case shoots a pop-up notification to your nearby Android device, similar to how AirPods and Beats pair to Apple devices.

Once connected, you can click on the Beats Studio Buds within Bluetooth settings to see battery information, find your headphones, or open the Beats app. There’s no Beats app for iOS, so all device toggling is done within the iOS Settings app and its Bluetooth menu. When you click the “i” next to the name of the earbuds, a few options show up.

Here you can switch between noise cancellation modes, customize the button controls on the earbuds, and change the name of the earbuds.

A firmware update in January 2022 added iCloud pairing support to the Beats Studio Buds. This means the earbuds now automatically pair with all of your Apple devices after connecting to just one of them.

There are no sensors to support Spatial Audio head tracking when watching movies and TV shows, but you can still say “Hey Siri” when paired with an Apple device.

Does the Beats Studio Buds stay connected? The earbuds maintain a reliable connection with an Android or iOS device. You get Bluetooth 5.2, with support for the AAC and SBC Bluetooth codecs. AAC is optimized for Apple devices, so you might be better off turning it off within the developer settings on your Android device.

The Beats Studio Buds doesn’t have support for higher-quality Bluetooth codecs like aptX or LDAC. Beats claims the earbuds last 5 hours with active noise cancellation turned on and 8 hours without it.

In our testing of continuous playback at 75dB(SPL) with ANC turned on, the right earbud lasted 4 hours, 24 minutes, while the left earbud lasted 4 hours, 41 minutes. This is slightly below average among true wireless earbuds but is in the same ballpark as other true wireless earphones from Apple and Beats.

The Beats Studio Buds passively and actively blocks out much more noise than earbuds like the AirPods (which isn’t exactly saying a lot).

This will help beats studio buds auditory masking, so your music will sound like it should in most environments. It will also help protect your ears, as good passive and active noise cancellation makes users less likely to crank up the volume on their earbuds in noisy environments.

The earbuds do have a noticeable dip in mid-range frequencies, leaving low and treble frequencies louder in comparison. However, the earbuds don’t suffer from the same issues of older Beats, which had an extreme boost in bass frequencies that masked other parts of music. Lows, mids, and highs The fundamental frequencies of most vocals lie between 100Hz and 400Hz, a place of about 5B of attenuation on the Beats Studio Buds compared to our ideal house curve.

The vocals on tracks such as good 4 u by Olivia Rodrigo sound noticeably quieter than they do beats studio buds most studio headphones. The Beats Studio Buds do a great job of accurately reproducing high-frequency sounds. Cymbals on September by Earth, Wind, & Fire are well defined, and easy to hear in the mix.

There’s no custom EQ functionality with the Beats Studio Buds, so you’re pretty much stuck with how they sound out of the box. If you’re deep in the Apple ecosystem and have extra money to splurge, you should consider the AirPods Pro. The AirPods Pro includes a wireless charging case and great-sounding earbuds with better ANC than the Beats Studio Buds (read more in our AirPods Pro vs Beats Studio Buds article).

You also get more features and better integration to Apple devices. The AirPods Pro frequently goes on sale for far less than its original $250 retail price, often for under $200. If you want all beats studio buds the premium software features that you get with the AirPods (3rd gen) in a more athletic package, consider the Beats Fit Pro instead. Like the Fit Pro includes active noise cancelling and little wings that extend from the earbuds to keep them in place. This is a more compact design than the Beats Powerbeats Pro and beats studio buds the Fit Pro, you get things like spatial audio.

What if you don’t have an iPhone? Android users (especially those with a Samsung phone) should check out the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2, which falls beats studio buds the middle of the Galaxy Buds Plus and Galaxy Buds Pro. The ANC is slightly better on the Buds 2 compared to the Buds Pro, and much better than the Beats Studio Buds. However, with the Galaxy Buds 2, you don’t get the same IPX4 rating, and you can’t use any of its in-app software features on an iPhone.

There are many great true wireless earbud options that cost less than Beats or AirPods. If you own an iPhone, the Nothing Ear 1 is a great option due to its active noise beats studio buds, wireless charging support, and water resistance. If you own an Android phone, especially a Samsung device, the Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus makes for a great choice. On the other hand, if you are looking for workout beats studio buds the Anker Soundcore Life A1 is worth checking out for its water resistance and sub-$50 price tag.

Apple owns Beats, and the Beats Studio Buds are loaded with AirPods Pro-like features for just $149.99, including active noise cancellation (ANC), Spatial Audio for Apple Music’s new Dolby Atmos-mixed tracks, and one-touch pairing for both iOS and Android devices. From an audio standpoint, the Studio Buds deliver a powerful, bass-forward experience, and manage to keep the highs crisp.

Noise cancellation is decent, but you definitely get what you pay for. And while many of the included features share similarities with the AirPods Pro, they aren't as polished. Ready for Android and iOS Available in black, red, or white, the Studio Buds are on the tiny end of the true wireless earpiece scale.

Their small size can make them a little more difficult to place in your ear at first, and their slick surface doesn’t necessarily help. Once in place, however, they offer a secure in-canal seal that stays put over long listening sessions.

The Studio Buds ship with three pairs of oval eartips in small, medium, and large sizes. Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions.

( See how we test.) Internally, the audio is delivered by 8.2mm dual-element dynamic drivers. The Studio Buds are compatible beats studio buds Bluetooth 5.2, beats studio buds support AAC and SBC Bluetooth codecs, but not AptX. The earpieces feature a modest IPX4 water-resistance rating, which means they can withstand light splashes from any direction. But don’t clean them off under a running faucet, and keep in mind the case itself isn't water resistant, so only place completely dry earbuds inside.

On-ear controls are mirrored on each earpiece. The outer panel with the Beats logo is a button. Pressing it once controls playback and call management, pressing it twice skips forward a track, and pressing it three times navigates backward a track. A long press cycles through ANC on, Transparency on, and ANC off.

There are no onboard volume controls, which is a bummer, but certainly not uncommon. There’s no wireless charging, which on its own isn't necessarily a negative, but the Studio Buds ship only with a USB-C charging cable.

If you don’t have a USB-C port to connect them to, the lack beats studio buds wireless charging means you’ll be buying a USB-C-to-USB-A cable, as there’s no included adapter. The charging case is oval, with a flip-top lid and an interior pairing button that you might not ever need to use thanks to one-touch pairing for Android and iOS.

The bottom panel houses the USB-C port for the charging cable, while the front panel has a status LED. Beats estimates battery life to be roughly five hours with ANC on or eight hours with ANC off, with an additional 10 hours in the charging case when ANC is on or 16 hours when it’s off. These numbers are fairly average for the category, and your results will vary depending on your volume levels and ANC usage. Interestingly (for an Apple product), the Studio Buds are made with native support Android and iOS in mind.

One-touch pairing and Find My Device are supported in both Android 7.0 and iOS 14.6 or later. There’s an app for Android, while in iOS, the Beats experience is similar to that of the AirPods: In the Bluetooth menu, you can access a settings page by tapping on the Beats Studio Pro info icon.

Here you can assign the press-and-hold function on either ear to activate ANC (this is the default setting) or Siri, or you can have each ear assigned to a different function.

You can also manually switch between ANC on, ANC off, and Transparency modes on this screen, as you can do in the iOS control center by pressing and holding on the volume icon, which reveals a mini settings page for the Studio Buds.

Noise Cancellation and Mic Performance The Studio Buds deliver average active noise cancellation for the price. They use a fixed filter, not adaptive ANC like some previous Beats products. It’s not identical to the AirPods Pro’s ANC, either. The earphones offer decent noise cancellation in scenarios with deep, low frequency-noise, like airplane rumble—the lows are dialed back, but we hear a high-frequency hiss added to the signal.

As for mids and highs, the Studio Buds show similar performance with a recording of a busy restaurant full of chatter and dishes clanging—the lows and mids are dialed back significantly, but the highs make it through, and there’s an audible hiss. Compared with the AirPods Pro on these same tests, the Studio Buds handle the lows and mids similarly, but they add notably more hiss to the equation. The hiss seems present whenever the ANC is on.

Particularly in a quiet room, turning on the ANC makes it obvious just how much high-frequency hiss is added to the signal. It’s not an unpleasant sound (think faint white noise), but it’s a hallmark of less-than-top-notch noise cancellation.

It’s also possible that, with ANC engaged, the bass response is dialed back ever so slightly, but for the most part the sound signature seems unchanged whether ANC is engaged or not. Transparency mode (which lets you hear your surroundings without removing beats studio buds earphones) is easy to switch to, and does a great job of offering a fairly realistic reproduction of your surroundings. There’s some added hiss, but volume levels are well matched, and the overall clarity is solid.

See How We Test Noise-Cancelling Headphones The multi-mic array offers good intelligibility. Using the Voice Memos app on an iPhone, we can hear some Bluetooth distortion, as is common with true wireless in-ears, but beats studio buds mic signal is strong, and the clarity is as well.

Even with some slight fuzz, the mics seem to accentuate frequencies that make it easier to be understood, and the beam-forming array targets wind noise. Sound Quality and Spatial Audio On tracks with intense sub-bass content, like The Knife’s “Silent Shout,” the Studio Buds deliver some seriously deep low-frequency thump, even at moderate volumes.

At top, unwise listening levels, the powerful lows on this track don’t distort. Bill Callahan’s “Drover,” a track with far less deep bass in the mix, gives us a better sense of the general sound signature. And holy moly, do the here sound extra thunderous, cavernous, and massive—it feels like you're standing inside the kick drum. Almost magically, however, the high-mids are boosted and sculpted enough to make the track sound balanced, so this is a bass-forward sound signature, with bright, crisp highs to match.

Purists seeking accurate audio performance will run in fear, but if you like added, deep bass depth that doesn’t overwhelm the clarity of the mix, Beats has done a good job of dialing up the beats studio buds without destroying the rest of the mix.

On Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “No Church in the Wild,” the kick drum loop receives an ideal high-mid presence, allowing its attack to retain its punch, but it also gets plenty of extra bass depth we often don’t hear applied to the loop.

The vinyl crackle and hiss that’s nestled into the background takes a slight step forward, and the sub-bass synth hits that punctuate the beat are delivered with subwoofer-like body.

So you have some seriously dialed-up bass from drivers that handle powerful lows gracefully, matched with very sculpted high-mids and highs that somehow don’t add much sibilance to the vocals. It may not be accurate, but it’s an exciting sound signature. Orchestral tracks, like the opening scene from John Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary, get a bit more low-frequency depth than they need—things would sound tubby and muddy if the highs weren’t so beats studio buds and sculpted.

Thus, clarity doesn’t suffer, but there’s a little more richness and bass depth through the Studio Buds than there usually is. As for Spatial Audio in Apple Music, it has been described in Apple's promotional videos as sound that is physically leaving the earphones behind, placing it above and around you.

Be that as it may, Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio still needs to harness the power of stereo drivers in order to deliver it, so lest there be any confusion here, this is stereo, left-right audio, dipped in spatial effects. With the AirPods lineup, the internal accelerometer enhances the experience by adjusting the audio to match your head movements. The Studio Buds lack this feature, and the accelerometer-free version of Spatial Audio sounds a whole lot like stereo, with reverb and EQ added in.

Deep bass seems to sound a little deeper, and sibilance sounds a bit brighter, but a magical experience this is not. Ultimately, we are nowhere near a moment of experiencing true surround sound from wire-free earphones, or even anything that sounds like surround. All of this said, it’s a harmless inclusion and it can sound cool despite not delivering beats studio buds its fully immersive promise. Just remember that films mixed in Dolby Atmos take advantage of specialized features in soundbars and other speakers when they're available, such drivers that aim the audio in different directions on systems that, in some cases, have taken full measure of your room’s acoustics beforehand for maximum effect.

When you listen to curated Spatial Audio/Dolby Atmos mixes in Apple Music through the Studio Buds, you're getting a track that has been mixed to sound especially good through these drivers, but any idea that there’s true surround or spatial feel here is pure marketing. Are These Buds for You?

If you’re looking for the best true wireless noise cancellation, you'll be spending a lot more on the aforementioned AirPods Pro, the $280 Bose QuietComfort Earbuds, or the $280 Sony WF-1000MX4. For $150 and below, there are few standout ANC options, though Anker's $130 Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro earphones offer a more balanced sound signature than the Studio Buds and do a laudable job with noise cancellation.

That said, they lack the iOS integration and one-touch Android pairing that make the Beats pair a little more interesting. So while the Beats Studio Buds are far from flawless, if you like boosted bass and don't need top-tier noise cancellation, they deliver a solid experience for the price. • Press once to answer a second incoming call and put the first call on hold. When two calls are active, this switches between calls. • Press and hold to reject an incoming call. • Press twice to stop listening through your earphones and send the call to your phone. Beats Studio Buds let you control how much you hear your surroundings. Press and hold the Beats logo button on either earbud to switch between Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency mode, and Off (to enable maximum battery life).

You can select which modes the press-and-hold action switches between. While wearing your Beats Studio Buds, go to Settings > Bluetooth > Beats Studio Buds > Press and Hold Beats Studio Buds.

Press and hold feature customization requires an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS or iPadOS 14.6 or later, or an Beats studio buds device with the latest version of the Beats app installed.

If you set up "Hey Siri" on your iPhone already, then "Hey Siri" is ready to use with your Beats Studio Buds. If you haven't set up "Hey Siri," you'll be guided through the setup. I have the AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro and these are way better! With the AirPods Pro the un ear fit was horrible these kept falling out which sucked! With these they fit perfect and donâ€™t even feel like I have anything in my ear. I like that they donâ€™t have a long stem popping out because If anybody is like me and has there earbuds on while putting on a sweater the AirPods fall off but these donâ€™t get tugged on by the stem because they donâ€™t have one!

If anybody loves the bass in songs these are great! Absolutely love this product! I started off giving these earbuds 4 stars, and then realized that I was unfairly comparing them to Air Pod Pro's that are over $100 more expensive.

For the relative value, these earbuds fit the bill. Feel: These earbuds are a bit slippery, and with the squat design it makes them a bit hard to grab. However, they fit snug into my ear so I don't have to over handle them much anyway.

It takes getting used to putting them back into the case correctly. Looks: I like the variable colors. I bought these because I misplaced my tiny white Air Pods Pro case (whose last location deleted after 24 hours because Apple is a money monger).

This red case is bigger but not cumbersome. Interaction: I don't like the button on the outsides of the buds. I wish the button was on the bottom with more of a squeeze function. To click the button, I have to essentially jam the bud further into my ear to get it to press.

I also like to lay down with my buds in, but if I turn my ears against the pillow, the button is constantly pressing. A button positioned on the button (or top) would be way easier to pinch when on purpose without accidental clicks. At least clicking it doesn't pull the buds out of my ear; an issue I had with the lever arm of the APPs. Sound quality and connection: Good enough beats studio buds me. Calls connected and sounded just fine.

I don't need my phone calls to have live orchestra quality. The music seems good too. Not overly bass forward but crisp.

ANC/Occlusion: The occlusion effect seems slightly worse than the Air Pod Pro's but no where near as bad as the Jabra's and other brands. I can sometimes hear my stomping on pavement but I don't hear my blood flow or anything.

The ANC/transparency is also relatively equitable to the APPs, of course slightly not as significant in quality because these buds are much cheaper. It does seem to smartly block out certain sounds; i.e. my HVAC, while letting through someone calling my name. Haven't really tested the battery life but supposedly they're better than APP.

Again, these are solid buds for the price. You get what you pay for, and these buds seems to prioritize what I actually care about so you don't have to pay $250 every time your APPs or Bose go missing. These Beats Earbuds are the worst, and I repeat the WORST product of DrDre Beats I ever bought.

Buy better earbuds with cheaper price then this expensive fraud garbage. It's a waste of money and a huge rip off when paying for quality sound control on earbuds or when listening to music, so I repeat DONT BUY THEM!!! Pros: - Very comfortable fit and design (stays put during workouts/running and has no pressure build up) - Decent Beats studio buds, maybe a notch below Airpods Pro but still a difference maker - IPX4 water resistance rating (tested through sweat and a little rain and no issues for me) - 8 hrs battery with ANC on, and 5 hrs with ANC off + 2 charges in case - Dynamic, boomy and bass heavy sound that is perfect for intense gym workouts or rap/EDM/hip hop - Volume gets very loud (they are maybe 1-2 ticks louder than Airpods Pro/Galaxy Buds Pro) Cons: - Case feels a little hollow with fingerprint oils showing easily - No wireless charging - Soundstage could be a little wider, vocals can be a bit overshadowed by the heavy bass - Transparency mode feels a little too robotic DÃ©finitivement je mâ€™attendais Ã mieux et je suis dÃ©Ã§ue.
