The second part of the movie is just as graphic and brutal except it is the woman taking revenge on the men that so wrongfully took advantage of her. Clearly, the vast majority of viewers will cheer for Jennifer as she gets her revenge, but from a legal perspective are her actions any different from the men's? The ending is also a little unsatisfying because it leaves the question of "Now what"?

Does she hide the bodies? Does she get caught and go to prison for the rest of her life? We don't know. The fact that so many people watch movies like this and cheer for the individual who was initially wronged even though violence and murder are part of their revenge raises interesting topics of discussion about how humans really feel about punishment, revenge, the law etc. This movie is obviously not watchable by just anyone, but for those into this kind of thing you won't be disappointed.

There's no way the four rapists are going to let her walk onto a bridge over the river so she can jump off i spit on your grave 2010 swim to safety. There's no way a 90 lb city girl is going to go through that ordeal and then execute perfect vengeance. If she lived then she'd go to authorities or pretend it didn't happen because it is too painful to bring up, as all victims do.

But not only does she live, she uses her 90lbs of womanhood to plot and execute vengeance? She choked out that one guy with a rope and I'm certain she doesn't have the strength to do that even if the guy didn't try to fight back (which he would).

She bashes a two over the head and they pass out, which wouldn't happen. Her weak upper body strength might daze him for a split second before he recovers and overpowers her. How ridiculously stupid. 18 people found this helpful I'd of course heard of the original 1978 film of the same name. Having never seen it, I decided to watch the remake. Goodness, what a cringe-worthy mess. What happened to Jennifer is horrible, yet I did not care about her character.

Nor did I care when she finally completed her only-in-the-movies revenge against the men. Sigh. Nothing interesting happened. 18 people found this helpful According to the movie trivia, Roger Ebert used the words, “morally repugnant” in describing this movie i spit on your grave 2010 its predecessor.

Yes, it is. It is a difficult and disturbing movie, and I found myself fast forwarding though most of it. I basically started where she jumps off the bridge, and still fast forwarded. Regardless of any "production values" it may have, I cannot find any redeeming value, and my recommendation is that you do not watch it.

12 people found this helpful A brutal grind-house/exploitation rape and revenge film which is far better than the original and surprisingly well made. Definitely not for everyone since aspects of the film will come across as gratuitous with a bleak outlook of humanity to boot.

I know it's a movie, but whenever I see some massively skillful, logistical, unique, mastermind abilities erupt out of a character it becomes too unrealistic for me.

It's as if we're seeing her do what may be in her head, but not what she would be capable of in real life. If that is the idea, so be it, but if getting gangraped makes you stealth as snakes and planned to the second within the realm of human behavioral psychology such that you can use and place people exactly where you want them to the minute, if not the second (using strength to lift and move limp bodies that weigh more than you do) for your own brutal will and pleasure, then I guess you can star in a movie like this one.

Any good reviews likely were written by women who have inferiority complexes toward men. The methods of torture and revenge were fitting, but there's no real ending. What happens to our newborn superhero? Is she killing every useless man on the planet?

Jennifer (Sarah Butler), a writer, rents an isolated cabin in the country so she can work on her latest novel. The gas station attendant, Johnny Stillman, gives her directions to her rented cabin when she gets lost. He embarrasses himself trying to flirt with her. When the cabin's plumbing becomes clogged, it is fixed by Matthew Duncan, a stuttering plumber with an intellectual disability. She rewards him with an abrupt kiss of gratitude. Matthew tells Johnny and his friends Andy Chirensky and Stanley Woods about his visit.

Johnny, whose ego was bruised after the gas station incident, decides that Jennifer is snobbish and needs to be "taught a lesson". That night, the four men sneak into the cabin and taunt and assault her, although Matthew refuses to participate. She escapes into the woods and bumps into Sheriff Storch and Earl, the owner of the cabin. Storch takes Jennifer back to the cabin, but when he finds her drugs and alcohol, he casts doubts on her story.

Johnny, Matthew, Andy, and Stanley return; all five men gang-rape her, including an initially reluctant Matthew. Stanley records everything with his video camera. Afterward, just as Storch is about to shoot her, Jennifer falls into the river to escape.

Jennifer begins to stalk her rapists in order to learn details of their lives. Stanley tells Andy and Johnny that his camera has been stolen, along with the videotape of their assault.

Storch intercepts a videotape sent to his wife and confronts the men to find out who sent it. Johnny and Andy suspect Matthew. When they go hunting, Storch kills Earl, saying that he is taking care of "loose ends". Matthew returns to the cabin and meets Jennifer. He attempts to apologize to her, but she tells him that it is not enough and strangles him.

She captures Stanley in a bear trap, ties him to a tree, smears fish guts on his face and then leaves his camera to record crows pecking out his eyes, which she pinned open with fish hooks. She then drowns Andy and burns his face off in a lye bathtub.

Next, she ties Johnny to the rafters of an abandoned house and uses pliers to pull out his teeth and a pair of garden shears to emasculate him, leaving him to bleed to death. While torturing them, she repeats to all of the men the taunts they had used on her. Jennifer visits Storch's wife, posing as their daughter Chastity's new teacher. She takes the daughter to the park and, when Storch tracks her there, she knocks him unconscious. When he wakes up, Jennifer stuffs his shotgun into his anus and reminds him that she was just as innocent as his own daughter.

She attaches one end of a string to the trigger and the other end to the wrist of the unconscious Matthew, who is seated in front of Storch. When Matthew wakes up, he sees the bound sheriff i spit on your grave 2010 tries to move, triggering the shotgun, which fires a round through Storch's anus and mouth before hitting Matthew in the chest, killing both men.

Sitting outside, Jennifer hears the gunshot and smiles. {INSERTKEYS} [29] On Metacritic the film was assigned a rating of 27, based on 14 critics, indicating "generally unfavorable reviews." [30] Roger Ebert gave the film a zero star rating, as he did the original, and described it as the "despicable remake of the despicable 1978 film." He stated that it added "a phony sense of moral equivalency...

If I rape you, I have committed a crime. If you kill me, you have committed another one. The ideal outcome would be two people unharmed in the first place." While he allowed that the movie was made "professionally," as opposed to the original version that was devoid of skill and artistry, he considered this largely in the service of the truly offensive material, the rape scenes.

He summarized, "this [version] is more offensive, because it lingers lovingly and at greater length on realistic verbal, psychological and physical violence against the woman, and then reduces her 'revenge' to cartoonish horror-flick impossibilities." [31] [32] Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle wrote, "In addition to all the obvious things that are disgusting about this movie, I Spit on Your Grave is trying to get us to hate each other.

Hate it instead. It makes more sense and the hatred is much more deserved." [33] Critic Andrew O'Hehir also denounced the notion that the film has a message, writing that it "just piles imaginary atrocities on top of real ones, and then halfheartedly claims that it means something.

Well, it doesn't." [34] Some support for the film in mainstream press came from The New York Times, whose reviewer wrote, "Female-empowerment fantasy or just plain prurience, Grave is extremely efficient grindhouse." [35] V.A. Musetto, from the New York Post, also offered some support for the film, stating, "If you can handle it, see it." [36] Like the original, the film did find cult support. Fangoria magazine wrote that I Spit on Your Grave "...is just as raw and upsetting in its onscreen brutality as the original.

Perhaps more so, since the acting is significantly better this time around." [37] Sequels [ edit ] A sequel, I Spit on Your Grave 2, directed by Steven R. Monroe, was produced, and had a limited theatrical release on September 20, 2013. The film's plot concerns a young aspiring model named Katie (Jemma Dallender) who accepts an offer to have photos taken for her modeling portfolio.

The events turn into a nightmare of torture, rape, and kidnapping, with a revenge plot similar to the first film. In March 2015, Anchor Bay Entertainment announced the third installment in the series, titled I Spit on Your Grave III: Vengeance Is Mine. [38] Sarah Butler returned to her role as Jennifer Hills, and R.D. Braunstein directed the film. [39] References [ edit ] • ^ "First Word on 'I Spit on Your Grave' Remake".

— Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil In the final shooting script, Jennifer was intended to arrive at the cabin with her dog and it was to be featured heavily during the introduction of the film. The dog was written out of the script last minute because hiring a trained dog for the intended shooting schedule would put the movie over budget.

According to the director Steven R. Monroe, "The dog would have made more money than anybody on the movie." The UK cinema version was cut by 43 secs for an 18 certificate. These included 'softer' (ie zoom-in) shots during the rape scenes which cropped detailed footage of Jennifer's bare breasts and behind, as well as camcorder footage of Jennifer being forced to dance, closeups of her being forced to suck on a gun and a glass bottle, and a shot of her blouse being opened with a rifle barrel.

DVD releases also feature the same cut print. If ever there was a candidate for banning a film it's this. It's not giving anything away to reveal that there's a rape scene in this film but be warned it puts anything you saw in "Last House on the Left" the remake to shame.

Graphic doesn't even begin to describe what the audience are subjected to by the voyeuristic intentions of director Stephen Monroe as he puts the audience in the front row seat for almost two hours of pure abuse. But this is a good thing. Surely rape is visceral, brutal and sadistic and this film embodies all these elements. And once the reported revenge begins it's even more brutal than anything done to her.

Superb and bold performance from Sarah Butler in a role that is probably considered by most to be career suicide. When her character takes revenge it truly is the stuff that nightmares are made of and some scenes made me cringe for at least an hour afterwards. Watch this one at your peril. This is highly recommended only for those who sit through a showing of cannibal holocaust without vomiting. Strong stuff indeed. One of the few examples of a remake vastly improving on the original.
