It would be interesting to perform some tests to see how much system DRAM the 5600G is capable of sharing with lots of DRAM installed.-As a side note about DRAM, the behavior of the way in Windows 10 allocates DRAM on a system with 32GB or more of DRAM versus 16GB of DRAM or less is very noticeable, with better performance on the higher DRAM system because Windows keeps the ratio between actual in use DRAM and the DRAM "commit charge" much lower.

The Ryzen 3400G pre-allocates a fixed 2GB from system DRAM at startup for graphics, while the Ryzen 5 5600G uses share system DRAM dynamically as needed.
From within the Windows 10 Settings application it is possible to see that Windows lists the maximum usable integrated graphics DRAM as 16GB on my system running 32GB of DRAM.
It would be interesting to perform some tests to see how much system DRAM the 5600G is capable of sharing with lots of DRAM installed. - As a side note about DRAM, the behavior of the way in Windows 10 allocates DRAM on a system with 32GB or more of DRAM versus 16GB of DRAM or less is very noticeable, with better performance on the higher DRAM system because Windows keeps the ratio between actual in use DRAM and the DRAM "commit charge" much lower. The Windows DRAM "commit charge" represents DRAM that Windows pages out to the ryzen 5600g disc drive.
A lower "commit charge" to "in use" DRAM memory ratio, closer to a 1 to 1 ratio, makes a system with more DRAM perform better. When the Ryzen 5 5600G is combined with a system drive, such as the PCIe 3.0 x 4 Crucial P5 nvme system SSD I'm using, and the 32GBs of DRAM I'm using, the performance results are noticeable. - One of the important limitations of the Ryzen 5 5600G CPU that should be noted and highlighted is that the PCIe support on the AMD Ryzen 5x00G processors is only PCIe 3.0, in contrast to the AMD Ryzen 5x00x processors which provide PCIe 4.0 support for both the ryzen 5600g generation discrete GPUs and for PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD drives which can operate at up to 7000MBs.
However, PCIe 3.0 NVME drives, such as the Crucial P5 that I am using provide quite adequate (up to 3500MBs), and notably helpful performance uplift. In fact, in my experience with every day computing, top quality NVMe SSDs that can maintain ryzen 5600g write performance (with NVMe DRAM cache) dramatically increase the performance of many "every day" computing tasks.
- One of my personal criticisms of AMD CPUs is that they have a notoriously high failure rate. Anyone who researches information about AMD CPU failure rates online will discover a high percentage of AMD CPU failures not long after installation, even running entirely at "stock" settings, using "default" / "factory" uefi bios motherboard settings.
It seems like every AMD CPU buyer ought to be prepared for this possibility. This is a significant consideration with AMD CPU products, that there is something about AMD CPU design that is very fragile, and prone to early failure. If your processor gets past ryzen 5600g 3 or 4 month threshold, it probably won't fail, but up until that point, cross your fingers. We'll see how well the silicon I got holds up over time.
- Since amazon was able to make the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G available as a "sold by amazon, shipped by amazon" product on AMD's release date, I feel super lucky to have been able to so quickly get one of these CPUs for use in real world business/workplace/office and "home theater" oriented computing.
Oddly amazon isn't showing this as a verified purchase review. However, the utility software screenshots I've included demonstrate that I'm indeed running this processor. Thankfully, it looks like AMD was able to produce adequate stock, with this product continuing to be able for order at msrp pricing (it looks like 3rd party seller scalpers have "gamed" the amazon price placement algorithm to get their scalper priced wares at the top even though amazon itself still has this cpu available at msrp if you look carefully).

Just save and wait for a card and get the 5600x instead. UPDATE: Realized my MB was an x470. I had already updated to the new ryzen 5600g, but I hadn't updated the chipset driver. Once I did that, performance of the chip and graphics performance were great. Make sure you're all updated and it's a great chip. Wife is playing Sims.
Graphics aren't great but you can do some light gaming. Overall: 6 core 12 thread modern processor. I use this in a PC to capture video game footage and edit the footage from consoles.
I use a capture card for the input to share the load with this processor. I use the integrated graphics for this purpose. Pros: Processor can do more than you expect. Integrated graphics can run most non demanding games at 1080p low/med or 1600 x 900 med/high. I have personally used a 2400g, 3400g, and 5600g. This is a significant ryzen 5600g from the older processors. I have a 5600x in my main PC, and this processor is barely noticeably slower at gaming.
Processor has no issues when editing video or capturing video from an external source using OBS and a capture card.
Cons: -Expensive. -Issues booting to bios through integrated graphics on my asrock motherboard. No issues on my Asus motherboard. On the asrock board, I would get no video until windows loaded, and then the video would work normally.
I decided to swap it out for a 5600x and ryzen 5600g dedicated graphics card in that system. -VRAM automatically set to 512 mb. Requires entering the bios in order to change the VRAM to the 2-4 GB required for most modern games.
-Processor limits PCI lanes to 8. If you intend to use this with a graphics card, this is a consideration. -Bios update was required for both of my B450 chipset motherboards in order to use this chip. This required the 3400g I was replacing with this chip. If you dont have an older AM4 chip lying around, check with the motherboard manufacturer, or purchase one of the cheaper amd athlon 3000g chips in order to perform the update. Most of the online reviews on youtube for this processor do not take into account the automatic 512mb VRAM.
Once you set the VRAM to 2 or 4 GB, you will get pretty good performance out of this chip. In ryzen 5600g game like Destiny 2, the improvement was 30 fps 1080p low to 50+ fps 1080p med/high mix. I use 3600mhz C18 corsair ram, and have no issues with the games ryzen 5600g I play. If you intend on using a discrete graphics card, aim for an AMD 6600, or 6600xt. These cards will only use 8 PCI lanes, and you will not be holding the card back due to limitations. The Cezanne APUs come with Zen 3 execution cores paired with the Radeon Vega graphics engine for iGPU-powered gaming rigs, and their arrival is long overdue.
Cezanne will be the first new AMD APUs available at retail since the quad-core Zen+ "Picasso" models came to market in 2019. AMD actually augmented that lineup with the more modern eight-core Zen 2-powered Ryzen Pro "Renoir" series in 2020, but limited those chips to OEM systems only. Now, three chip generations after it launched its last round of APUs (Zen 2, XT, Zen 3), AMD is finally replacing its 12nm quad-core Zen+ APUs.

Instead of its traditional separation of the CPU and APU lines, AMD drops the 5000G models right into the Ryzen 5000 stack — AMD says they fill the role of the standard "non-X" models that traditionally offer more attractive price points at a given core count by sacrificing peak clock speed for a lower TDP.
If the numbers hold out in our performance testing, the 5600G could also address AMD's premium pricing with its Zen 3 chips: AMD's shift from being the budget brand to the market leader resulted in a $299 cost of entry into the Ryzen 5000 family. The $259 six-core Ryzen 5 5600G reduces that steep price of entry and also comes with a bundled Wraith Stealth cooler, sweetening the deal.
AMD is still holding back some of ryzen 5600g lower-priced 5000G models, though, so our list of the best cheap CPUs probably won't change for some time. The GPU shortage appears to be improving ever so slowly, thanks in part to the collapse of mining profitability and China shutting down mining firms, but we expect it to persist to some extent over the next several months.
If the 5600G slots in well under its X-equipped counterpart, the Ryzen 5 5600X, it could be a tough chip to beat. The six-core 12-thread Ryzen 5 5600G comes with a 3.7 GHz base and a 4.4 GHz boost clock, 16MB of L3 cache, and seven Radeon RX Vega CUs that operate at 1.9 GHz.

Surprisingly, the majority of the Ryzen 5000G 'Cezanne' SoC comes from the Ryzen ryzen 5600g 'Renoir' SoC. To improve time to market, AMD essentially swapped in new Zen 3 cores, leaving the I/O, 7nm Radeon RX Vega integrated graphics engine, and SoC design intact.
As such, the 5600G has 24 lanes of PCIe 3.0 connectivity compared to 24 lanes of PCIe 4.0 found on the Ryzen 5000 models for the desktop PC. AMD also chose to reuse the 7nm Vega graphics engine instead of incorporating newer RDNA variants.
Compared to the six-core Ryzen 5 5600X, you gain the Radeon RX Vega graphics engine but sacrifice 200 MHz of peak CPU boost clock and half the L3 cache. The 5600G does have a 200 MHz higher base clock, though. Stepping down $100 from the $359 eight-core Ryzen 7 5700G requires trading off one graphics CU and 100 MHz of GPU frequency along with 1MB of L2 cache, two CPU cores, and 200 MHz of peak CPU clock rates.
The loss of GPU cores and clocks should mean about 15% less graphics performance, though it might be less of a difference than that since both GPUs are still likely limited at least in part by the shared memory bandwidth. The Cezanne desktop chips will find their way into 500-series and some 400-series motherboards, though support on the latter will vary by vendor. Building an RGB matx non gaming system on a budget, and, not understanding, at 79, much of the language from the tech savvy contributors, I rely a lot on certain comments and reviews to make purchase decisions.
This G series integrated graphic CPU, on a B450M DS3H v.2 mobo and Cooler Master G100M low profile cooler in a NXZT h501i case looks like a workable base configuration. The rest of the components should be elementary. Reply • Most of you won't care about this issue .
I was evaluating the AMD Ryzen5 5600G using an existing Linux Image ryzen 5600g on Centos 7. I wanted to get away from Intel and try AMD. However, this processor consistently generated Panic Traps, both from the ryzen 5600g and even from the Centos 7.9 install disk. I was using a GIGABYTE B550M DS3H. I have never seen an X86_64 part generate Linux Panic traps by just booting.
Usually there are minor issues like not seeing the audio or ethernet components. And yes ithe Ryzen 5 5600G will boot from later kernels. And yes an AMD cpu without the GPU enabled works fine. I then ran into the second problem which is that even with a late Ubuntu distribution the AMD DRM gpu code didn't not want to install. I have never encountered this level of incompatibility since I've been using Linux which is around Y2k.
Naturally AMD support doesn't care since it is Linux. For this level of incompatibility I might as well be running an ARM processor.

I learned this using an RX 5700XT at release. I had to run beta/alpha kernels for the first 6 months or so. Ubuntu 20.04 was really the first release with decent in the box support and even then better with later kernels. So it's not too surprising. I also had similar issues with Intel AX wireless at that time (Around x570 Master, motherboard).
And that doesn't even cover trying to get RGB in Linux working. I've since gone back to solid, no window, case. I'm also now on an RTX 3080, as I'm running some video AI stuff that didn't do well with AMD at the time.
Nvidia drivers haven't been the best either. At least at ryzen 5600g point it's mostly mature. Unfortunately, bleeding edge hardware and Linux means a bit of pain. If suggest only running a very recent kernel in hardware released at least 4 months before your OS release. CentOS stable is not that. Should run a recent Fedora instead. I'm not that up on rpm distros, preferring Debian based myself. I know there are a couple newer white box RedHat options though. Reply • Hi, guys!

A strong successor to older, budget-friendly, gaming-focused CPUs like the AMD Ryzen 5 3400G, it puts up some of the fastest game frame rates to date from an integrated ryzen 5600g processor (IGP).
Cheaper than the IGP-less Ryzen 5 5600X ($299 MSRP) and layered in with the highly-capable Radeon RX Vega 7 graphics engine, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G is a serious threat to Intel's competing Intel Core i5-11600K on CPU grunt, and really puts the hammer down once you factor in its gaming results and its Radeon Software compatibility. Whether you're an esports hopeful aiming to get a gaming PC built for cheap, or just want a solid IGP-equipped processor that will drive low-lift daily computing, the Ryzen 5 5600G is another stellar 7nm AMD desktop processor.

These chips launch today and go on sale August 5, following on from their mid-2021 introduction and the early rollout into a few OEM desktop systems before the chips came available to end users. That disclaimer out of the way, let's get into some specs! The $259 six-core/12-thread AMD Ryzen 5 5600G is priced aggressively out of the gate against competing Intel options like the $262 Core i5-11600K, and it even undercuts its comparative cousin in the original, non-IGP Ryzen 5000 Series stack, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X ($299 MSRP).
However, it's important to note that at the time of that review we dinged AMD for the $50 price creep we saw across many of its higher-end offerings, and the adjustment of the Ryzen 5 5600G back down to $259 (just $10 off from the $249 debut price point of the Ryzen ryzen 5600g 3600XT) feels less like a good deal than a necessary return to reality. (Photo: Chris Stobing) Toss in a seven-compute-unit Radeon RX Vega 7 graphics engine, though, and the pot only grows sweeter.
As a midrange chip with six cores, the Ryzen 5 5600G is perfectly positioned as the go-to choice for gamers who want to build a gaming PC capable of keeping up at high refresh rates in low-impact multiplayer games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive or Valorant.
As we'll see in some of the benchmark results below, the combination of six cores and ryzen 5600g RX Vega 7 makes for some seriously potent integrated graphics gaming power. But more on that in a bit. (Photo: Chris Stobing) Based off the same Zen 3, 7nm architecture as the rest of the Ryzen 5000 stack, the Ryzen 5 5600G is compatible with AMD's venerable Socket AM4, though as we'll discuss in a moment, the motherboard compatibility list isn't remotely as expansive as we've come to expect from AMD over the past two generations of chips.
Also, like the Ryzen 7 5700G and Ryzen 5 5600X, the 5600G ryzen 5600g based on a unified eight-core CCD design (with two cores disabled in this model), one that differs from the Ryzen 5 3600X and Ryzen 5 3600XT. In those chips, the eight-core CCDs were divided over two four-core CCXs, which increased latency and decreased frame rates in both integrated-graphics and discrete-card gaming tests.
(Photo: Chris Stobing) Since optimizing their new designs, midrange Ryzen options—first the $299 Ryzen 5 5600X and now the $259 Ryzen 5 5600G—have rocketed up the value-leader list, assisted in no small part by AMD's decision to include Wraith Stealth coolers with each. Like the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, the Ryzen 5 5600G comes with a Stealth cooler in the box, though it's more expected when buying a midrange CPU like this than a high-end one to get this extra hardware in the bag.
(Photo: Chris Stobing) At $259, considering the specs, the RX Vega 7 graphics, and the inclusion of a cooler, it looks like AMD is ready to re-cement its position as the value (and performance) leader in midrange desktop PCs. But can it defend its title in testing? Let's dig in to the benchmarks to find out. Testing the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G: An Upstart PC Gamer's Best Bet We tested the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G on an MSI Mortar Ryzen 5600g motherboard, with 16GB of Corsair Vengeance memory clocked to 3,200MHz (the new ceiling for these "Cezanne"-based APUs), and an Addlink S70 NVMe M.2 PCI Express 3.0 solid-state boot drive paired with a Samsung SSD 860 QVO SATA secondary drive.
The processor was cooled using the Wraith Stealth air cooler included in the box. All this was packed in a Be Quiet Pure Base 500 case fitted with an 850-watt Corsair RM1000X power supply. For our gaming tests, we used an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ryzen 5600g, at Founders Edition clocks, as we have on all recent mainstream and high-end CPU reviews. An important benchmarking-results and performance note: This is ryzen 5600g different testbed than we used with other Ryzens we've reviewed to date, as AMD points out that the Ryzen 5 5600G and the Ryzen 7 5700G are compatible with only these four motherboards at the time of launch: • Asus ROG Strix B550-E Gaming • Asrock X570 Taichi • Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master • MSI MAG B550M Mortar We test CPUs using a variety of synthetic benchmarks that offer proprietary scores, as well as real-world tests using consumer apps like 7-Zip, and 3D games such as Far Cry 5 and Rainbow Six: Siege.
Included in the charts below is a variety of like-priced competing and sibling AMD and Intel CPUs. CPU-Centric Tests Though the Ryzen 5 5600G isn't designed to be the star of AMD's productivity lineup in Zen 3 (that honor goes to the 16-core Ryzen 9 5950X, for now), let's see how it fared during various content-creation tasks and brute-force benchmarks like 7-Zip.
If you're spending lots of time creating video or other content with your next CPU, from both a value and a performance perspective, I'd recommend opting for the eight-core/16-thread Ryzen 7 5700G instead, if you are choosing between that chip and this one. That's not to say the Ryzen 5 5600G scored poorly ryzen 5600g these tests. (In fact, the opposite is true when comparing directly to the Ryzen 5 5600X.) It's just that the 5700G is so good for what it is, that on these tasks specifically, it's the better choice overall.
Perhaps one of the most daunting tales for Intel in all of this comes in the productivity tests, where in runs that tend to favor AMD's lightly threaded cores (say, 7-Zip or Cinebench), there were instances where the six-core 5600G challenged the eight-core "Rocket Lake" Intel Core i9-11900K. AMD has long since proven, post-Ryzen 5000 Series launch, that its current lineup of processors is better suited to modern content-creation workloads that hit as many cores and threads as possible.
When a Ryzen 5 5600G is starting to toy with Intel's mainstream top-gun chip in productivity benchmarks.that's when you know things are heating up. Gaming in the Midrange: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G Frame Rates With a Discrete Card Now, to focus on the area where the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G is tuned to perform at its best: PC gaming, especially at popular resolutions like 1080p, where the CPU comes to the fore in some titles.
Here's what we saw in our bank of gaming tests with our GeForce RTX 2080 Ti card running the show, overriding the Radeon IGP. This top-end consumer graphics card is the primary arbiter of performance at 4K with all of the CPUs that we have laid out below. At 1080p, though, the card gets out of the way a bit more and lets the CPU differences shine.
Like what we saw in the CPU tests, the Ryzen 5 5600G also doesn't make the most sense as a pick for anyone who will be gaming with a dedicated GPU, either. Its results paired with the RTX 2080 Ti, while on par with expectations, weren't faster than the similarly equipped Ryzen 5 5600X, and were only slightly ryzen 5600g in most cases than the Intel Core i5-11600K. AMD already makes a stellar set of ryzen 5600g for gamers who own a good video card and play games on discrete graphics (the Ryzen 5 5600X and Ryzen 7 5800X), and although the 5600X is slightly more expensive at MSRP, its age over the Ryzen 5 5600G means it's already seeing discounts in some places.
(At the time of this writing, the Ryzen 5 5600X was going for for $279.99 on Amazon, and $289.99 on Newegg, off a $299 MSRP.) Gaming on Integrated Graphics: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G IGP Results We run lower-end CPUs that have IGPs through a series of games tuned to either near-lowest, or the lowest, settings at a 1,280-by-720-pixel resolution (720p), as well as at 1,920 by 1,080 pixels (1080p).
Here is what we saw with this lot. Finally, we come to the bread and butter of Ryzen's G line of chips over the past few years: integrated graphics performance. In this arena, AMD has proven it has no equal, and Intel's closest competition to the Ryzen 5 5600G, the Core i5-11600K, is regularly doubled here in performance by both the 5600G and 5700G chips.
And while the Ryzen 7 5700G does generally outpace the Ryzen 5 5600G by a decent margin, it's not so substantial that anyone except people running benchmarks would notice under most circumstances. When building a system, and especially one designed for multiplayer gaming, having the option to save on a GPU and instead put that money into a faster monitor could mean the difference between Gold and Diamond ranks next season (or between 60Hz and 240Hz, depending on the monitor model).
At 1080p, the Ryzen 5 5600G was just about able to hit the 165Hz/165fps threshold in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, a mark that could easily be exceeded with just one or two more in-game settings turned down.
Those settings could also be tuned using any number of tools available in the Radeon Software suite, including FSR, RIS, or CAS. (For a breakdown on those acronyms and how to use each, click those respective links for more info.) Compatibility with Radeon Software gives Ryzen 5 5600G and Ryzen 7 5700G gamers access to the full array of tools that Radeon GPU owners have enjoyed for several years now, all of which help critically in mulitplayer titles.
By adding compatibility with tools like Radeon Boost, Anti-Lag, Smart Access Memory, and FreeSync, along with the rest of the acronym salad mentioned above, owners of the $259 Ryzen 5 5600G can now tune their systems to give them frame rates and system performance that can keep them competitive with dedicated GPU/processor combos that cost much more. Players of competitive online multiplayer games ryzen 5600g always need fidelity, ryzen 5600g just need speed.
And according to our benchmark tests (which didn't even engage the Radeon Software), the Ryzen 5 5600G has more than enough to spare. A Brief Look at Overclocking and Thermals In our testing, when overclocking or at stock, the Ryzen 5 5600G never went above 67 degrees C, which lands it just under the Ryzen 5 5600X, at 70 degrees C.
This was recorded during a 10-minute stress-test run of 3DMark Night Raid on integrated graphics, and again, all achieved ryzen 5600g the included Wraith Stealth cooler. Moving on to our overclocking trials, ryzen 5600g were able to achieve a stable overclock of roughly 120MHz on the boost clock, and around 45MHz on the IGP.
This is not far from the profile we achieved during tests of the Ryzen 7 5700G, though the power translation was slimmer, at just a few percent difference in frame rates between the overclocked and non-overclocked runs this time around. Again, though, as we said in that other review: Overclocking on a stock cooler is not advised.
Verdict: With the 5600G, More Midrange Dominance If you're a faithful player of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Rainbow Six: Siege, or Valorant, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G makes it possible to build your next "good enough" gaming rig for much less than what it would cost with any other processor that's come before it. That's especially true if you would otherwise have had to buy a new graphics card, in the midst of the gruesome price inflation that GPU hardware has seen from 2020 to present.
For bringing that relief alone it earns our Editors' Choice award, but add onto that a strong value proposition at its $259 price, and you have a six-core CPU that performs almost in line with where it should relative to the $299 Ryzen 5 5600X.but with "free" integrated graphics. (Photo: Chris Stobing) Overall, the IGP-less Ryzen 5 5600X is a better choice if you plan to game with a dedicated GPU anytime in the near future, especially if it's on sale.
But you can't use it without some graphics card in hand right now. For those who want an IGP-equipped chip that can reliably power many games above 60fps at low resolutions (a ceiling that could reach even higher, with some careful Radeon Software tuning), the Ryzen 5 5600G presents the perfect balance of price and performance, unlike anything Intel can offer on the other side in 2021.
