Sahabat Bambu was initially started as a non-profit-oriented business unit by tree in 2006, one year after earth quake disaster in Yogyakarta.
Its first project was the development of bamboo treatment facility in order to support and supply after quake bamboo building projects needs. The projects includes rebuild and construction of bamboo house for batik artisan, schools, and public/community centers in the quake af- fected areas.
To provide a better service, better quality bamboo products to its customer and workers, Sahabat Bambu then become a profit-oriented company in 2007. With this status Sahabat Bambu was able to reach wider markets and better sales on its bamboo products, without forgetting its main big idea: “reintroducing and promoting bamboo as an alternative, more environmental friendly building materials”. This effort was fully supported by Cebongan artisan, bamboo workers, architects, NGOs and bamboo networks in Yogya- karta.
Today, Sahabat Bambu is legally registered as CV. Sahabat Bambu Indonesia, with office and work- shops in Central Java and Yogyakarta.
