Brina Palencia “ After the little storm had passed, the sky over Gévaudan...
seemed higher than before. ” — Mémoire 32: Visiteur Chloé d'Apchier (クロエ・ダプシェ, Kuroe Dapushe) is a character from Jun Mochizuki's The Case Study of Vanitas. A Vampire believed to be infected with Malnomen, she was the central figure of the Beast of Gévaudan arc.
She resides in the district of Gévaudan, in what is known as the "Silver Forest," causing her to earn the title of Silver Witch ( 白 ( はく ) 銀 ( ぎん ) の 魔 ( ま ) 女 ( じょ ) , Hakugin no Majo). {/INSERTKEYS}
She has pale skin, her body still thin and diminutive, not having gained any features marking physical maturity. Her face is very round, with a small, pointed chin, thin eyebrows, a small nose, and large, thick-lashed gray eyes.
Short, wavy silver hair flows freely to about the level of her ears, parted at the center with long bangs falling to the center of her face. Though Chloé exhibits all the physical characteristics of a prepubescent girl, her expressions are far more severe and mature than those used by any of Jun Mochizuki's true child characters.
Like all vampires, Chloé's eyes will occasionally turn red.
Spoiler warning This article contains plot and/or ending details for The Case Study of Vanitas. Read at your own risk. Personality Chloé can be cold and standoffish at times, but is generally kind to others and takes her duties as Marchioness of the d’Apchier family quite seriously. Chloé, as she says herself, has a jealous streak and will seek revenge on anyone who hurts her allies and friends.
She often ignores social boundaries and can be quite curious about outsiders. She enjoys being outdoors and walking in the forest.
Contrary to her appearance, Chloé is actually over two hundred years old. She’s mature and knowledgeable because of this, and can break free of August Ruthven’s vampiric curse, which other vampires find impossible to escape. Chloé is also quite handy with machinery. Powers and Abilities Supernatural See also: Vampires • Indefinite Youth - Chloé retains her appearance from when she was eleven years old, though her mind continues to age.
• Enhanced Strength - Despite only having the body of an eleven year old girl, Chloé overpowers both Noé Archiviste and August Ruthven, two adult male vampires.
Malnomen See also: Malnomen According to Vanitas of the Blue Moon, the Malnomen Millie, Theater of Ice and Snow ( 氷雪の劇場 ( ミリー )Hyōsetsu no Gekijō ― Mirī) generates a sealed space in which the infected must repeat their memories until their death. Unlike most Malnomen, Millie requires the will of the curse-bearer to be cured.
The use of a reverse operation without the will of the infected to break free will result in the death of the infected. Chloé commanding familiars. • Sealed Space Generation - Chloé's Malnomen creates a "sealed space" of her own memories. This space consumes matter around it, and grows larger as Chloé's infection progresses.
• Gravity Manipulation - Apparently derivative from the generation of the sealed space, Millie would pull in surrounding matter. • Suspension - In the final stages of Chloé's infection, she was suspended and could move through air, though it is chloe vanitas no carte how conscious this movement is.
• Temporal Looping - Chloé repeats the events leading up to her infection within a certain radius, including the recreation of people within this space and time.
• As this is a recreation of her memories, "people" present within the space are not their true versions- rather, they are how Chloé remembers them. • All people created by the time loop (rather than those who enter it, i.e. Noé, Jean-Jacques, or Naenia) attempt to kill Chloé. • Familiar Manipulation - In the final stages of Chloé's infection, she could create and manipulate wolf-like entities to do her bidding.
Other • Automaton Manipulation - Chloé helped to engineer and subsequently command a number of automatons. • Alteration Device - Chloé knew how to operate the Alteration Device. Relationships Jeanne Chloé learned of Jeanne through August and later cared for Jeanne for a chloe vanitas no carte time when Lord Ruthven left the child in the castle of the Marquis d'Apchier.
There, she taught Jeanne various subjects, including lessons and games. [1] After Jeanne became a bourreau and during the Beast of Gévaudan's first appearance, the two would meet again under less desirable circumstances: Jeanne had been tasked with slaying the curse-bearer.
In spite of Chloé's coaxing, Jeanne, shocked at her discovery of the Beast's true identity, hesitated and was unable to kill Chloé. [1] Jean-Jacques Jean- Jacques is one of Chloé’s only friends, and acts as her guard and servant. Chloé would do anything to protect Jean- Jacques, and seeks revenge on those who have hurt him. Chloé can be rather snappy towards Jean- Jacques, yelling at him after the events of Gévaudan, but genuinely has his best interests at heart.
Naenia Naenia is Chloé’s enemy. Chloé pretends to be Naenia‘s ally as a front, but in reality plans to murder Naenia as revenge for her defiling Jean- Jacques’ true name.
Unfortunately this plan does not go as expected. Quotes To Noé Archiviste • " I'm simply asking for seconds. One more mouthful." • " Honestly, what a noisy child you are." • "I became a curse-bearer of my own accord.

Trivia • Chloé shares a character song with Jean-Jacques, Sekka, sung by their japanese voice actors and composed by Tomohiro Ōkubo. • Chloé's name means chloe vanitas no carte or "fertility" in Greek. • Chloé last name, d'Apchier, could be reference to Garin d'Apchier, a noble from Apcher in the real life Gévaudan. • Chloé's name resembles that of the Jean-Jacques Rousseau composition, " Daphnis et Chloé." • In early releases of the Japanese text, Chloé's name was misspelled as "クロエ・ド・アプシェ" ( Kuroe do Apushe), functionally "Chloé de Apchier." In proper French names, "de" is contracted when the following word begins with a vowel. As such, her name was written with the correct spelling "クロエ・ダプシェ" ( Kuroe Dapushe) in later releases. • It is implied Chloé is skilled with music, though she is never shown playing an instrument canonically.
• The alteration device is chloe vanitas no carte after a piano. • The d'Apchiers are stated to manipulate the World Formula through sound. • All of Chloé's automatons look like instruments. • In Romance is a✰LOVE MISSION, she is a music teacher.
