Basic vi Commands Basic vi Commands What is vi? The default editor that comes with the UNIX operating system is called vi ( visual editor). [Alternate editors five vi UNIX environments include pico and emacs, a product of GNU.] The UNIX vi editor is a full screen editor and has two modes of operation: • Command mode commands which cause action to be taken on the file, and • Insert mode in which entered text is inserted into the file.
In the command mode, every character typed is a command that does something to the text file being edited; a character typed in the command mode may even cause the vi editor to enter the insert mode. In the insert mode, every character typed is added to the text in the file; pressing five vi
While there are a number of vi commands, just a handful of these is usually sufficient for beginning vi users. To assist such users, this Web page contains a sampling of basic vi commands. The most basic and useful commands are marked with an asterisk ( * or star) in the tables below.
With practice, these commands should become automatic. NOTE: Both UNIX and vi are case-sensitive. Be sure not to use a capital letter in place of a lowercase letter; the results will not be what you expect. To Get Into and Out Of vi To Start vi To use vi on a file, type in vi filename. If the file named filename exists, then the first page (or screen) of the file will five vi displayed; if the file does not exist, then an empty file and screen are created into which you may enter text.
* vi filename edit filename starting at line 1 vi -r filename recover filename that was being edited when system crashed To Exit vi Usually the new or modified file is saved when you leave vi. However, it is also possible to quit vi without saving the file. Note: The cursor moves to bottom of screen whenever a colon ( :) is typed.
This type of command is completed by hitting the
You must use the the key commands listed below. On some UNIX platforms, the arrow keys may be used as well; however, since vi was designed with the Qwerty keyboard (containing no arrow keys) in mind, the arrow keys sometimes produce strange effects in vi and should be avoided. If you go back and forth between a PC environment and a UNIX environment, you may find that this dissimilarity in methods for cursor movement is the most frustrating difference between the two. In the table below, the symbol ^ before a letter means that the

yy copy (yank, cut) the current line into the buffer Nyy or yNy copy (yank, cut) the next N lines, including the current line, into the buffer p put (paste) the line(s) in the buffer into the text after the current line Other Commands Searching Text A common occurrence in text editing is to replace one word or phase by another. To locate instances of particular sets of characters (or strings), use the following commands.
/string search forward for occurrence of string in text ?string search backward for occurrence of string in text n move to next occurrence of search string N move to next occurrence of search string in opposite direction Determining Line Numbers Being able to determine the line number of the current line or the total number of lines in the file being edited is sometimes useful.

Following the merger, the newly founded IVECO began rationalizing its product range, manufacturing plants, and sales network, while keeping the original brands. From 1975 to 1979, the IVECO range included 200 basic models and 600 versions spanning from 2.7 tons of GVW for a light vehicle to over 40 tons for heavy vehicles, as well as buses and engines.
In 1977, the light- to medium-weight IVECO Zeta range was introduced, replacing the 20-year-old OM Lupetto. Integrating the FIAT-OM range with the Unic and Magirus lineups was completed by 1980. IVECO moved in to work on increasing productivity and engine development. In 1978, IVECO launched the first product in the range of IVECO-branded light vehicles, the Daily.
In 1980, IVECO built a turbo diesel engine for heavy industrial vehicles. In this decade the corporate strategy was heavily oriented towards brand promotion and led to the sponsorship of sports events, such as the 1980 Olympic Games five vi Moscow, the Davis Cup in 1982, multiple championship boxing matches, the Jacques Cousteau five vi in the Amazon basin in 1983 and the Raid Pigafetta, during which the IVECO-FIAT 75 PC 4x4 was first to make a full circle of the globe.
Two new divisions were also formed: bus diesel engines and firefighting vehicles. In 1984, IVECO launched the TurboStar, a heavy on-road vehicle that became a best-seller in Italy and also successful in the European market, selling a total of 50,000 in seven years. In 1985, IVECO made the first light diesel engine with direct injection. From 1986, IVECO S.p.A.
held a 52% stake in Iveco Ford Truck Ltd, a joint venture (and effectively a merger) with Ford of Europe's truck division.
Ford plants took over production and sales of the major vehicles in the IVECO range and continued production of the Ford Cargo. In the mid-1980s, Astra, which produces dumpers and construction site/quarry five vi in Piacenza, became part of Iveco Group.
In 1989, the first diesel engine with EGR to reduce polluting emissions compatible with commercial vehicles was produced, and the new Daily launched that five vi year was fitted with it. In 1990, the group purchased 60% control of Spanish industrial company ENASA, which owned the industrial vehicle builder Pegaso. In the 1990s, the EuroCargo, EuroTech, EuroTrakker, and EuroStar vehicles represented a total facelift for the range.
The EuroCargo and the EuroTech were named " Truck of the Year" in 1992 and 1993, respectively, and for the first time, this recognition was awarded to the same manufacturer for two years in a row. English company Seddon Atkinson was purchased in 1991 and brought its long heritage of special vehicles for the construction and refuse-collection industries.
That same year, the first TurboDaily assembly line was inaugurated at the Nanjing Motor Corporation in China. In 1991, IVECO announced that they were withdrawing from the North American market at the end of the calendar year; they had been selling the midrange Iveco Euro there since 1978. In 1992, IVECO took over the primary constructor of industrial vehicles in Australia to form Ital, originally called International Trucks Australia.
In 2000 it was renamed Iveco Trucks Australia Limited. In 1996 firefighting activities in Germany were structured under the company IVECO Magirus Brandschutztechnik GmbH.
The following year, these activities were boosted by the arrival of an Austrian company, Löhr, which then became Löhr Magirus. In 1998, the Cursor 8 was launched, followed the next year by the Cursor 10, the first diesel engine with a variable-geometry turbine and the first common-rail diesel engine for heavy industrial vehicles.
The 125th anniversary of five vi presentation of the first Magirus ladder was celebrated together with the delivery of the 5000th Magirus aerial ladder produced since the Second World War.
In 2003, IVECO entirely bought out Irisbus, originally part of a joint venture with Renault. In 2004, the IVECO Motors brand was introduced, which became an umbrella for the production of engines; the following year, it was incorporated into the newly founded Fiat Powertrain Technologies.
At the end of 2004, an agreement was reached between Iveco and the Chinese company Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SIAC). In 2006, Iveco sponsored the Winter Olympic Games in Turin with a fleet of 1,200 Irisbus buses.
The year after, IVECO became sponsor of the All Blacks, New Zealand's rugby team. In 2009, IVECO became the truck and commercial vehicle supplier for the Moto GP, together with the historical sponsorship to the Ferrari Racing Team, for which it supplies the vehicles that transport the single-seaters at all the Formula 1 World Championship races.
On 1 January 2011, Fiat Industrial was formed, incorporating CNH, IVECO, and FPT Industrial. In September of the same year, the Fiat Industrial Village was inaugurated in Turin, a multipurpose centre belonging to Fiat Industrial and created for the sales, assistance, and product presentation for the IVECO, New Holland, and FPT Industrial brands.
On 15 January 2012, IVECO won the 33rd edition of the Dakar Rally with the Petronas De Rooy team and Dutch driver Gerard De Rooy, behind the wheel of an IVECO Powerstar. De Rooy was followed by drivers Stacey and Biasion behind the wheel of two Iveco Trakker Evolution 2 vehicles, equipped with an FPT Industrial C13 engine with over 900 hp. On 11 November 2021, Iveco has published the prospectus in order to split from CNH Industrial which will be operated as a publicly separated company named Iveco Group N.V.
After the completion of the demerger, starting from 1 January 2022 IVECO is part of Iveco Group N.V., the parent company of the trucks and specialty vehicles, powertrain and related financial services businesses previously held by CNH Industrial.

It five vi wholly owned by IVECO through its subsidiary Iveco Bus, and specializes in the manufacture of buses and coaches. Astra [ edit ] Main article: Astra (company) Astra is a brand dedicated to off-road vehicles for construction and mining industry. It produces heavy on-road and off-road vehicles as well as heavy tractors five vi road transport and logistics vehicles, including armoured vehicles for the military.
The company was founded in 1946, but has been part of Iveco since 1986. Magirus [ edit ] Main five vi Magirus Magirus is the brand dedicated to firefighting vehicles and their fittings.
Magirus also produces aerial ladders, five vi industry in which it is the world leader. It was founded in 1866 as "Magirus Kommanditist" by Conrad Dietrich Magirus, fire chief in Ulm, Germany, who also invented the ladders for the firefighting vehicles.
Iveco Defence Vehicles [ edit ] Iveco Defence Vehicles specialises in military vehicles. Its headquarters are located in Bolzano, where the Iveco LMV is produced, one of the brand's most famous vehicles used by many armies in Europe and abroad.
[ unreliable source?] Furthermore, Iveco Defence Vehicles has been selected by the Dutch Ministry of Defence to develop and manufacter the future infantry mobility vehicle for the Dutch Armed Forces, the Iveco Medium Tactical Vehicle.

The trading profit was €490,000,000. A total of 153,384 vehicles were delivered, an 18.3% increase over 2010. Emissions and alternative fuels [ edit ] Euro VI engines with SCR technology [ edit ] IVECO engines from the Cursor and Tector ranges observe the Euro VI standards [ unreliable source?] by adopting High Efficiency SCR (HI-eSCR) technology.
[ unreliable source?] This technology optimises the processes of exhaust combustion and after-treatment, reducing consumption and enabling achievement of greater efficiency in the conversion of NOx emissions. [ unreliable source?] Electric drive [ edit ] IVECO developed and built the first Daily with electric propulsion in 1986; Later, the range was broadened to include trucks and city buses. IVECO introduced the New Daily with electric propulsion and zero exhaust emissions, in which a battery system powers an electric three-phase asynchronous motor – through the aid of an inverter – in charge of moving the vehicle directly, while recovering energy during braking.
[ unreliable source?] The vehicle runs on two to four batteries made with Na/NiCl2 ( Sodium-nickel chlorine) technology at a nominal 278 Volts. The maximum velocity is electronically limited to 70 km/h, while the vehicle's range is from 90 to 130 km on a fully charged battery, depending on the number of batteries and the mission. Diesel-electric parallel hybrid traction [ edit ] The parallel hybrid solution incorporates both a Diesel engine and an electric engine that can be used individually or simultaneously, which makes for greater operating flexibility and allows the vehicle to work under both urban and non-urban conditions.
In 2010 IVECO introduced this technology on the Eurocargo Ibrido, a commercial vehicle for the European market with electri-diesel parallel propulsion for distributing and collecting goods in city centres. The payload capacity decreases by 200 kg in comparison to diesel-engine models, but it is possible to save up to 30% on the urban cycle. [ unreliable source?] The Eurocargo hybrid range is made up of two versions: • the 7.5-ton version uses a Tector Diesel FPT Industrial engine with 16 valves and 4 Euro V cylinders, with a maximum power of 160 hp (118 kW); this is paired with a drive system made of an electric motor-generator with 60 hp (44 kW), a 6-speed automated gearbox and a lithium ion battery pack (Li-Ion) of rated capacity 1.8 kWh.
 • The 12-ton version uses the FPT Industrial Tector engine with 16 valves and 4 EEV cylinders with a maximum power of 180 hp (132 kW), paired with an electric motor-generator with 60 hp (44 kW), a 6-speed automated gear box and a lithium ion battery pack (Li-Ion) of rated capacity 1.8 kWh. Diesel-electric hybrid [ edit ] IVECO has been active in this sector since 1990 with 6, 7, 4 and 12 metre buses for urban and suburban transportation. The series hybrid technology features a diesel engine – smaller than that of a traditional vehicle – that acts as a battery charger.
CNG – compressed natural gas [ edit ] IVECO's range of light, medium and heavy vehicles and buses can run on methane. Methane makes it possible five vi save on consumption by 38% per kg transported as compared to that consumed by diesel engines for the same payload and distance travelled. In addition, compared to Euro VI diesel engines, methane engines reduce NOx emissions by approximately 60% and particulates emissions by approximately 70%.
LNG – liquefied natural gas [ edit ] In April 2012 IVECO presented its first vehicle with this technology, the Stralis LNG. As opposed to vehicles with CNG technology, LNG technology takes the vehicle farther on a full tank (up to 750 km) and reduces the vehicle's tare thus increasing the load. The main difference between the two technologies lies in the type of natural gas storage employed, which in this case is kept in a liquid state at −161 °C in cryogenic tanks; it is then heated in five vi heat exchanger so that once it reaches the engine it is a gas.
Also, the noise emitted decreases by 3 to 6 decibels over an analogous diesel engine vehicle. IVECO Trakker Bifuel – diesel-ethanol prototype [ edit ] IVECO created the first prototype of a bifuel, diesel and ethanol-run vehicle. The technology was developed by IVECO together with FPT Industrial and Bosch.
[ unreliable source?] The prototype uses a Trakker truck with Common Rail Cursor 9 engine with 360 HP that may be powered by a 40–60% ethanol-diesel blend.
The prototype was tested by Raízen, a joint venture between the cane sugar producer Cosan and Shell. In 2011, this prototype earned IVECO the "Prêmio Top Etanol" – for the alternative fuel technology. Heating and air-conditioning systems [ edit ] A prototype of a heat pump system for electric and hybrid vehicles was installed on the IVECO Daily vehicle.
The system cools or heats the passenger compartment by transferring low temperature heat generated by the drive systems. At the same time, the control strategies minimise the energy demand in order to achieve a low impact on consumption. IVECO vehicles [ edit ] The brand’s range of products include the Daily, a vehicle that covers the 3.3 – 7.2 ton vehicle weight segment, the Eurocargo from 6 – 19 tons and, in the heavy segment above 16 tons, the IVECO WAY range with the on-road IVECO S-WAY, the off-road IVECO T-WAY and the IVECO X-WAY for light off-road missions.
Current models [ edit ] • IVECO • IVECO Daily • IVECO EuroCargo • IVECO S-Way • Iveco Stralis X-Way • IVECO T-Way Major sponsorships [ edit ] Iveco has in the past sponsored many major professional boxing events, including, in each case, the first of two fights between Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns and between Aaron Pryor and Alexis Arguello.

Enchanting in Skyblock has a set Experience cost for every enchant and every level. Most enchants in the game cost 30-50 levels for the max tier obtainable through a enchanting table, but some higher grade enchants, such as First Strike IV, cost up to 75 levels. Unlike vanilla Minecraft, even if an item is already enchanted, it five vi still be used in the Enchantment Table.
The Enchantment Table lets the user choose the Enchantments to add to or remove from the item in the slot on the five vi at will. All the valid enchantments will be listed on the side, and each enchantment (and every tier of it) will cost various amounts of Experience Levels and requires different Bookshelf Power, which is increased by placing surrounding bookshelves.
When an item is placed within the Enchantment Table, a list of all applicable enchantments will be shown. Clicking on a desired enchantment shows all possible levels of the enchantment, along with their XP costs. Clicking on the desired level will then apply the enchantment, provided the player has enough XP. Certain enchantments require a certain amount of Bookshelf Power to apply, five vi to 20.
An enchantment table's Bookshelf Power is determined by the number and type of Bookshelves which surround it. 1 Enchanted Bookshelf counts as 15 Bookshelves. Applying conflicting enchantments within the table (for example, Syphon to a weapon with Life Steal) will cause the old enchantment to be replaced with the new one.
Additionally, enchantments can be removed through the table by clicking on the same enchantment and level. They cost the same amount of XP to remove and also grant Five vi XP.
Enchantments with higher tiers than available through the table cannot be removed directly; for example, Smite VI cannot be removed directly, but five vi be removed by applying Sharpness V.
Books can not be enchanted in a enchanting table directly, and can only be obtained by experiments or other sources. Certain enchantments have higher tiers which are unavailable within the Enchantment Table; they must be obtained by other means, often through the Experimentation Table. High-Level Enchanted Books [ ] Main article: High level Enchantments Unlike normal enchantments, the top level of many enchants - often Level VI - cannot be found on the Enchantment Table, and cannot be made by combining two level V books.
They are instead obtained by special means, such as the Experimentation Table, the Dark Auction, or Tomioka. In cases where enchantments don't normally go to level V, the top-level enchant maybe be smaller than VI (ex: Life Steal Five vi, which normally goes only up to III). Ultimate Enchantments [ ] Main article: Ultimate Enchantments Ultimate Enchantments are more powerful Enchantments which can be added to items in an anvil.
Only 1 Ultimate Enchantment can be applied to an item. If another is applied, the previous will be overwritten. Five vi [ ] • Certain items with otherwise unobtainable or illegal enchantments exist. They were created by 12 ADMINs. • Protection L - Five vi +150 Defense - Worn by 12 Plancke on an Anubis and an Armor of the Stars set • Protection X - Grants +30 Defense - Worn by 12 Plancke on a Titan's Chestplate, Titan's Leggings, Titan's Boots, a Boss, and an Armor of the Stars set • True Protection X - Grants +50 True Defense - Worn by 12 Plancke on Titan's Chestplate • Sugar Rush X - Grants +20 Speed - Worn by 12 Plancke on Titan's Boots and Boots of the Stars • Growth L - Grants +750 Health - Worn by 12 AgentKid on a Boss and Five vi of the Stars • Growth M - Grants +15000 Health - Worn five vi 12 Plancke on an Anubis • Growth TOO_HIGH_NUMBER - Grants +75000 Health - Worn by 12 Plancke on a Titan's Chestplate, Titan's Leggings, Five vi Boots, a Boss, and an Armor of the Stars set • This level of Growth is Equivalent to Growth V̅ (5,000).

• Vicious VI - On a Valkyrie owned by 5 DragonBoii, given by an 12 ADMIN as a replacement, most likely with the unobtainable enchant by mistake. • Sugar Rush TOO_HIGH_NUMBER - Grants +200 Speed - Worn by 12 TorWolf on Boots of the Stars • This level of Sugar Rush is Equivalent to Sugar Rush C (100). • Power L - Increases bow damage by 400% -Used by 12 TorWolf on a Raygun • Sharpness XXV - Five vi melee damage by 125% - Used by 12 TorWolf on a Sword of the Stars 3000 • Chimera XXV - Used by 12 TorWolf on a Rogue Sword • Sharpness L - Increases melee damage by 250% - Used five vi 12 TorWolf on a Sword of the Stars 9000 • Telekinesis O - Normal Telekinesis effects - Seen in 12 TorWolf's inventory • The regular vanilla enchantment, Infinity, is one five vi the few vanilla enchantments not in SkyBlock.
It is replaced in the form Infinite Quiver. It is possible to get Infinite Quiver X from dungeons, which effectively used to function the same as Infinity would, although this was five vi on the 7th of September 2021. • Infinite Quiver does not work when using a Bow while sneaking. This is an intended feature. • The enchantment GUI used to work similarly to vanilla, where 3 different options for enchanting were shown and the enchantments received were unknown.
This was changed in 0.10.
• Although Frost Walker is an enchantment added in 1.9, it is merely simulated in the game code. • Other than Frost Walker, this is the same for vanilla enchantments added after 1.8.9 due to server compatibility issues. • The Giant Killer VI book is announced as "Giant Slayer VI" in the Dark Auction.
• There is a very common misconception with Giant Killer that states that the maximum damage is 25% and that higher levels affect the rate at which giant killer increases damage. The misleading part is that 25%. • The 25% refers to the enemy's HP, not the damage multiplier cap. Giant Killer takes the enemy's HP and the player's HP.
Then, if the enemy's HP is 25% or higher (1.25x the five vi HP), it'll use 25% to calculate the damage increase, which is then calculated as follows: • Damage multiplier = 1 + five vi * Giant Killer level * 0.1, when enemy HP >= 1.25 * player HP and 0.25 is the HP cap. Thus, the maximum damage increase from Giant Killer is 2.5%/5%/7.5%/10%/12.5%/15%/17.5% from Giant Killer I to Giant Killer VII respectively.
• Dragon Hunter V requires 16,000,000 coins to make, or 15,520,000 coins with the Seal of the Family discount. • The Replenish enchant for the hoe seems to five vi partly bugged when using a Personal Compactor and harvesting crops. Sometimes, it will compact all crops into the enchanted form leaving no crop for Replenish to replant.
When this happens, it leaves an empty patch rather than replanting the crop. This does not affect many crops, except for some such as Nether Wart, Potato, and Cocoa Beans. This can be remedied with an Agronomy Sack, which will collect the crop before it is compacted, and which the Replenish enchant can draw from. • The recipes of Sharpness Five vi and Protection IV are references to the recipe of Book of Sharpening and Book of Protection in another Hypixel minigame, UHC Champions, which uses the same recipes.
• Dragon Tracer used to be known as Aiming. It had the same effect except it worked on almost every mob type. • This enchantment seems to also work on other bosses. [ Confirm] • Logs and partially grown crops both increase the counter for the Cultivating enchantment, but only on Axes. • The Blessing enchantment can trigger while fishing a fairy soul, but you only get one soul, however you get the fortunate achievement.

SkyBlock Prototype June 11, 2019 0.1 Added Enchantments. The enchantment table works similarly to the vanilla enchantment table.
When a non-enchanted item is inserted, 3 different enchanting options will appear, each option costing different amounts of XP. The 3rd option always costs the maximum amount of XP from the enchantment table based on the number of bookshelves placed around it. Each option shows 1 enchantment which is guaranteed to be applied, but it is possible for more to be applied.
The list of the lowest possible amount of XP required to be spent to obtain certain enchantments can be found here. She'd ask around later, see if she could provide any insight as to what they were doing up in Piltover. Starring: Jinx, Vi Trivia • Vi is a Zaunite sumpsnipe who became a Guardian of Piltover. • Vi's prototype Atlas Gauntlets were created by Vaido Violante, a former apprentice of Covin Reveck, Orianna's five vi. • Vi remembers nothing from her early childhood, even her name 'Vi' comes from the tattoo on her cheek. • Before the release of Arcane, Vi and Jinx were often theorized by the community to be sisters.
The reference to this on Jinx's release was her quote, "You think I'm crazy? You should see my sister". Though there was never any implication that the sister was Vi, players equated Jinx's antagonization of Vi specifically as "sisterly bonding". • Incidentally, Jinx only antagonized Vi specifically on English-speaking servers. Other servers showed her antagonizing other champions, such as Lucian.
• Hermit later says to Vi, "You look like your sister! Er, wait, I'm not supposed to talk about that.". This could be a confirmation that Vi has a sister, but could also be an example five vi Lyte repeating rumours he's heard from players (such as the rumour he heard from players that Lux and Ezreal were dating, which Lux herself later denied after hearing the rumour ).
• There is a significant indication that the pair did grow up together, however. With Vi currently suffering from amnesia, Jinx has taken it upon herself to try and trigger her memories. • In an interview with Ghostcrawler, he mentioned that Jinx and Vi are "sisters", but later confirmed he was merely stating what he thought was true, and that the narrative team said otherwise.
• Vi is in her 20s, and around 5 years older than Jinx. • Vi is left-handed and weighs 8,140 lbs with her gauntlets on. Change log Character blurb V10.20 (12 October 2020) Added.

Read all Following Jigsaw's grisly demise, Mark Hoffman is commended as a hero, but Agent Strahm is suspicious, and delves into Hoffman's past. Meanwhile, another group of people are put through a series of gruesome tests. Following Jigsaw's grisly five vi, Mark Hoffman is commended as a hero, but Agent Strahm is suspicious, and delves into Hoffman's past.
Meanwhile, another group of people are put through a series of gruesome tests. Detective Mark Hoffman is deemed a hero after he saves a young girl and "escapes" one of Jigsaw's games, or so five vi seems. Special Agent Peter Strahm is suspicious of him after an injured Special Agent Lindsay Perez says Hoffman's name.
While Agent Strahm looks into Detective Hoffman's past, five people face a series five vi tests set up by Jigsaw. — Rebekah Five vi (at around 1h 7 mins) Detective Mark Hoffman steals Agent Peter Strahm's cellphone out of the evidence locker, and uses it to call Agent Dan Erickson.
Erickson answers the phone thinking it was actually Agent Peter Strahm. However Erickson should five vi known that Strahm's cellphone was in evidence, and therefore known that it could have been someone else using the cellphone. Saw V is clever. It knows what the audience wants, and after four solid films, it still continues to fill in the cracks of minor plot inconsistencies and even manages to link itself all the way back to the first movie.
Five vi genius of these films is finding out more about the past that directly links to the events in the future. In this respect, Saw V may just be the best film in the whole series, utilizing plenty of flashbacks, insane traps, and a plethora of returning characters. The fifth film stars series regulars Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, and Scott Patterson, as well as newbies Julie Benz, Meagan Good, and Greg Bryk.
David Hackl, who served as production designer on Saw II through Saw IV, five vi takes over the director's chair for Darren Lynn Bousman. This time around, Hoffman, Jigsaw's last remaining apprentice, is trying to tie up all the loose ends, following instructions Jigsaw gave him on his deathbed.
Agent Peter Straum is quickly piecing together clues and suspects Hoffman as being tied to Jigsaw. At the same time, five people, Brit, Luba, Mallick, Ashley, and Charles, wake up in a trap and must work together to reach the end. It all builds up to an astounding conclusion that sets the scene for Saw VI in a fantastic fashion. As always, one of the most enthralling things about the Saw films are the traps, and this one doesn't disappoint at all.
It doesn't go too five vi with the gore, and yet stays intense and absolutely enthralling the entire time. We get explosions aplenty, a water tank, a falling pendulum, a trap involving electrocution, and several others.
There is a particular one involving a glass box that was especially disturbing and crazy. The acting in this installment is on-par with Saw II, which is actually saying a lot. It seems as if in all of the films, there is always a weak spot except for Saw II, and now this one (Cary Elwes in Saw, Bahar Soomekh in Saw III, and Justin Louis in Saw IV).
Julie Benz is an effective heroine, one that is fun to root for throughout the course of the movie. Likable characters abound, with few even approaching annoyances from this viewer. Scott Patterson was great to watch in his race to piece things together. Costas Mandylor shines in his scenes, and takes over Jigsaw's reign quite well. Tobin Bell is in a league all his own, and in all of the flashback scenes (and there's plenty of 'em), he comes nothing short of an absolute pro.
After five films, he has 100% nailed the Jigsaw character. In terms of directing, David Hackl does an excellent job taking over for Darren Lynn Bousman. There is lots of flashy editing and awesome camera angles, and the constant close-up shots that fans of the series have come to love.
Hackl's visual style is very similar to that of Bousman's, and that's saying something. Both directors bring an incredible amount of creativity to the screen, and Hackl sprinkles a little flavoring all his own that makes this new Saw flick a feast for the eyes.
There's no arguing that's it's well-made, in terms of both acting and directing. The latter half of the movie is super intense, and although the runtime is very short, the length is perfect. It lays out the carpet for the next film in the series with amazing bravado, perfected after five films. It seems like they finally know how to leave us with a cliffhanger at the conclusion. As promised, the five vi is stunning and shocking, but don't expect it to be on caliber with the first movie, an ending which will be hard to ever top.
Even after five films, Saw has not grown stale, and continues to enthrall and thrill fans of the series. It is probably the best movie series ever in terms of continuity. As much as I thought I knew what was coming, the fifth entry in the Saw series threw out shock after shock and never ceased to surprise me. Once the credits start, you are left craving more, which will make the next and final entry in the Saw series one that this particular fan will very much be looking forward to.
