Personality [ ] Masamune is quite smart as he got full marks in his transfer exam and seems to also excel in sports. When he's to please the women, he is shown to be quite flirtatious. Although his training made him tough and handsome, he still has a fear of bugs, especially spiders, which makes him squeal at times. It's shown that he's been able to "read people", as shown when he saw through Neko Fujinomiya's facade multiple times.

His handsome features and dream-like personality makes the girls in his school swoon for him. He gets all his moves and ideas of being a 'kind boy' from romance and shoujo manga, which he had borrowed from his sister. Although he may appear to be narcissistic, it is actually his fear of returning to his traumatic days of being overweight and bullied. As a result, he regularly works out and is extremely mindful of the calories in his foods.

Plot [ ] History [ ] Masamune had met the heart-breaker, Aki Adagaki, on the day he was masamune kun no revenge character, eight years ago. He was standing outside her mansion, claiming that he was rich. Once the bullies left because of the scary dogs, he saw her and they became good friends. Going to Aki's garden very often, he would keep her company and give her gifts. In return for him being nice and honest to her, Aki would also help make Masamune stronger by stopping him from fearing her dogs, Lancelot and Sean.

When Aki had helped Masamune take revenge on his bullies, she had also confessed her sadness as her parents were getting a divorce. Masamune had also vowed then to be by her side. Later at home, Masamune thoughtfully decided what to do to cheer her up when Chinatsu Hayase (Masamune's sister) was trying to get his attention.

Kinue Hayase (Masamune's mother), misunderstanding what he said, was upset he didn't like her donuts and went to make better and fresh donuts, which Masamune took into consideration that he shouldn't buy a gift because Aki didn't like donuts or candy because they have it there in her mansion. He went to Central Park to gather flowers and was running to Aki's mansion, only to meet his bullies as he ran towards the mansion. However, he was caught up by his bullies in the garden.

After the heartbreak, Masamune asked his grandfather masamune kun no revenge character help him. So for the past eight years, his grandfather had made him run, pull weights and keep fit to become a handsome and tall young man.

Masamune took his features as an advantage to advance in getting his revenge on Aki. Revenge Arc [ ] When Masamune meets Aki Adagaki, he realized how getting her to fall for him was not going to be easy as she was a man-hater who enjoyed humiliating and rejecting everyone who confessed to her. Masamune kun no revenge character also has a way of giving boys she doesn't like derogatory nicknames.

Extremely confident about his good looks, he unhesitatingly proceeded to flirt and make her fall for him. He seemed to be making progress as she often got nervous and blush around him, despite insulting him just like she did everyone else. He even gained help from Yoshino Koiwai, Aki's maid. He used Yoshino to fulfill his plan to get revenge on Aki but before he met with her, she gathered information about him and found out that he was the chubby kid "Piggy Foot" who was turned down by Aki eight years ago.

At first, he was greatly anxious about having someone finding out about his past-self, however after they met face-to-face, and revealing that she was the one who found out his identity, Yoshino told him that she too would help him get revenge on Aki. She took advantage of Aki's trust for her to help Masamune meet his goal.

The Play Arc [ ] When Masamune decided to fill in as the prince at the last minute without consulting his class for Class 2-A play of Snow White when Kanetsugu Gasō was nowhere to be found in time for her part to be played.

He knew that they worked too hard for this to happen and couldn't let it end in tragedy. Although he had a fever at the time and ended masamune kun no revenge character acting a bit clumsy on stage, his clumsiness and inability to think clearly resulted in him actually kissing Aki Adagaki and letting Class 2-A's play end in success. Kanetsugu managed to return to stage all the while feeling frustrated and leaving Class 2-B no choice but to scrap their play, despite Gasou asking Futaba to fill in as prince for Class 2-B play.

Tae Futaba replied, "Don't underestimate the role of chemistry here." Masamune had to go to the nurse's office afterward. Field Trip Arc [ ] Masamune and his classmate go on a field trip in Paris and bump into a French otaku named Muriel Besson, who wishes to become a manga artist.

After realizing that they were Japanese, she was inspired by Masamune and Aki Adagaki to create her own manga. At first, Masamune and Aki kindly reject her offer in assisting her, but her brother butts in and blackmails them too.

As they act out what a Japanese couple does in a love comedy, Masamune confesses to Aki. She rejects him, saying that she was still in love with the boy 8 years ago. Confused by Aki's story, he blames her angrily, saying it was her fault as she runs away. Masamune visits the Adagaki mansion and runs into Yoshino Koiwai. He tells her what if she was telling the truth and that she wasn't the one who gave him the nickname.

Yoshino eventually confesses that she was the one that gave him the masamune kun no revenge character because she hated how much time Aki spent with him. Formerly a fat kid, his history of bullying, culminating in being rejected by his childhood friend Aki, who called him a "Pig's Foot", instilled in him a burning desire for vengeance, going so far as to subject himself to intensive training under his martial artist grandfather, emerging after eight years as a handsome, popular high-school boy.

• Academic Athlete: He's smart enough to get full marks in his transfer exam and seems to also excel in sports. • Allergic to Love: In the last stretch of the manga, he suddenly breaks into hives whenever girls directly touch him, and starts showing symptoms of it after he and Aki start dating. The only exception to the rule is Yoshino, and he realizes that it's because he enjoys being around her.

Neko speculated that the reason for it is purely psychological; his body is negatively reacting to the sudden dropping of his series-long goal after finding out he never had any reason to hate Aki. • Alliterative Name: Masamune Makabe.

• Beneath the Mask: Sure he may be attractive now, but he's still the same immature guy in the inside, and has massive social anxiety. • Best Served Cold: His entire plan is to find Aki, charm her into falling in love with him, and then cruelly reject her when she confesses, all for the bullying done from her insult eight years ago. Sounds devilish on paper, but when he actually has opportunities, he never goes through with it because he doesn't want to hurt her.

• Betty and Veronica: The Archie to Veronica's Aki and Neko's Betty. Yoshino later becomes the Cheryl. • Bishōnen: Post-makeover, he's considered to be a natural ladykiller with his looks. • Bridal Carry: Attempts this with Yoshino after the latter sprains her ankle.

This causes her to react and she sends him flying a few feet with a punch from her brass knuckled hand. • Broken Ace: On one hand Masamune is smart, handsome, and athletic, and he knows it. On the other hand, he still has several self-esteem issues due to being bullied in the past. • Bully Magnet: In his childhood, other kids bullied him for being fat.

• Casual Kink: Has a relationship with Yoshino in which he calls her Master, while she calls him Pig's Foot. Were it not for the fact that Pig's Foot was an insult from his past and Master being his nickname for Yoshino because he's learning from her, one could construe that they are in an S&M relationship. • Chick Magnet: After getting handsome, masamune kun no revenge character every girl he meets gets a crush on him.

• Childhood Friend Romance: Masamune kun no revenge character wants to date his childhood crush, Aki. Initially, it's all a scheme to get back at her for rejecting him when they were kids. Then it becomes a Double Subversion when they do fall for each other in the present. The reveal that their whole past fallout was a scheme of Yoshino helps.

The manga ends with Masamune confessing his love for Aki and asking her to be his girlfriend, for real this time.

• Deadpan Snarker: He constantly makes sarcastic remarks to people around him, whether it be Aki being a thick headed moron, Neko's tendencies to act like she came out of masamune kun no revenge character romance manga, or Yoshino's tendency to switch between her personas of being a meek servant and a scary chessmaster.

• Dogged Nice Guy: Subverted. He acts like towards Aki, but he's actually planning to make her fall for him to then turn her down. • Dreadful Musician: Masamune's singing is so terrible that it causes everyone to pass out in the karaoke room. • Embarrassing Nickname: The motive of his revenge is Aki humiliating him by calling him "Pig's Foot". • Formerly Fat: As a child, he was pudgy.

After a harsh experience with Aki, he swore to get himself a makeover, going so far as to subject himself to a strict diet plan (which would involve rejecting the sweets his mother and younger sister often eat). • Freudian Excuse: His goal to get revenge is obviously as a result of Aki rejecting him many years ago. Not to mention he was already bullied beforehand. • Giftedly Bad: Masamune singing karaoke causes everyone in the room to collapse in agony.

He thinks his singing voice moved them so much that they're lost for words. • Heroic BSoD: When he reveals his true identity to Aki and she agrees to date him, Masamune literally shuts down when it finally hits him that he spent eight years obsessing over a "revenge" plot to get back at Aki when she wasn't even the one who hurt him.

To top it off, all his efforts to get thin and make Aki fall in love with him were seemingly a waste of time because she already liked him when he was fat. Afterwards, Neko recognizes Masamune is suffering from burnout syndrome due to the shock. • I Hate Past Me: Despite Aki's subtle urging to return to being the past version of himself, Masamune just doesn't want since he's worked too hard to get to where he is now to throw it away.

At the end of the series, he comes to terms with his past self thanks to Aki fully accepting and loving him for who he is both in the past and present. • Inferiority Superiority Complex: Underneath his confidant exterior, Masamune is still the awkward shy kid he was mixed in with years of spite to the people that made fun of him. • Informed Attractiveness: He may be miles from where he used to be as a child, but besides masamune kun no revenge character muscles we see from time to time, he doesn't really look any better or worse than most other male anime romcom protagonists out there.

• Insecure Love Interest: When Aki finally accepts to be his girlfriend, Masamune feels constantly insecure if Aki really likes him for who he is now since she agrees to date him only after she learns he's her true childhood friend.

It doesn't help that Aki wants him to eat more like he did in the past, so Masamune is scared that his current self isn't enough for Aki to love him.

After Aki helps him face his former bully and she accepts him for who he is now, Masamune gets over his doubts and realizes he really wants to be with Aki. • Insult of Endearment: He gets called "Pig's Foot" by Yoshino, despite him hating the name.

He slowly does shrug it off and the name is basically Yoshino's nickname for him. Also serves as foreshadowing to the fact that Yoshino was the one to come up with the name instead of Aki as Aki doesn't remember the name, but Yoshino does and constantly uses it. • Irony: For the majority of the series, his goal is making Aki fall for him to then reject her and get back at her for calling him "Pig's Foot" when he was a kid.

At the end of the manga, he unwittingly did make the girl who called him "Pig's Foot" fall for him and he rejects her, except the girl is Yoshino instead of Aki.

• Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's self-centered, full of himself and grudgeful, but not a bad guy. Despite claiming he will take revenge on Aki over and over again, he can't bring himself to do something that would actually hurt her and ends up coming to her aid more often than not.

• Love Martyr: He pretty much gives up all his ambitions just to be with Aki after Yoshino admits she was the one behind their separation as children, which is putting a strain on him mentally, given that she keeps unwittingly imprinting her images of the old Masamune onto him, but he keeps going ahead with it because he empathizes with her for trying so hard in their relationship.

To Aki's credit, when she gets convinced that she and Masamune can't have a proper relationship with the way they are now, she breaks up with him and encourages Yoshino to confess her love for Masamune, honestly believing Yoshino is the one for Masamune. In the final chapter, Masamune asks Aki to start dating again after both realize they do love each other for who they are in the present after all.

• Loving a Shadow: Neko theorizes that Masamune has fallen out of love with Aki by the time they start dating and he's forcing himself to be with her out of attachment to the relationship they had as kids and guilt over abandoning her and wanting revenge against her for something she never did.

Masamune continues unsure about how he truly feels about Aki until she helps him face one of his former bullies which leads Masamune to fully accept both his past and present. Aki then breaks up with him because she thinks he doesn't love her, but this makes Masamune realize he does love Aki.

• Misplaced Retribution: His whole revenge plot against Aki is this. Aki wasn't the masamune kun no revenge character who called him "Pig's Foot", it was Yoshino disguised as Aki. • Narcissist: What his younger sister Chinatsu thinks of his habit of checking out his post-makeover body.

• The Nicknamer: He's more subtle about it than Aki is, usually only using the nicknames for people in his head, but he thinks of his classmates bu their nicknames if they have them, and he's come up with a few himself, like calling his mom " loli- hag." Aki is even entered in his phone as " Cruel Princess." • Nom de Mom: His original family name is Hayase. After slimming down, he changed it for his maternal grandparents' last name, Makabe, so no one in his hometown can recognize him in case someone remembers him from the time when he was fat.

• Otaku: He accidentally becomes one for shojo manga while researching pick up lines to use on Aki. Ironically, he becomes scared of Otakus after being traumatized by Muriel and her brother. • Petty Childhood Grudge: For eight years, he has been bitter about getting called "Pig's Foot" by Aki. After growing into a slim and handsome teenager, he resolves to take revenge on Aki by making her fall in love with him so he can reject her.

• Post-Stress Overeating: Despite his efforts to stay fit, he binge eats junk food and snacks when he's anxious, usually because of Aki. He regrets it when he sees he has gained back weight soon after. • Private Tutor: He personally tutors his friend Kojuurou who is so bad at studying that he only gets single-digit grades until Masamune starts to help him. • Raised by Grandparents: After Aki's rejection, Masamune went to live with his grandfather who put him through arduous training to become fit.

He went back to live at his parents' house recently. • Real Men Hate Sugar: He avoids eating sugary and fatty foods, attributing his former fatness to his mother's cooking (where she throws in a lot of fatty and sugary stuff in them).

• Rescue Romance: He developed a crush on Aki after she helped defend him from his bullies, but she rejected him. Years later, Masamune invokes this by defending Aki from one of the guys she rejected.

• Secret-Keeper: Upon discovering Aki is a Big Eater, Masamune promises to not tell anyone about it. He took it into account in case he needs blackmail material, though. • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The Manly Man to Kojuurou's Sensitive Guy. • Troll: Though not to the level of Yoshino, Masamune enjoys messing with Aki by catching her off guard with his advances. • Unwanted Harem: He's the object of affection for Aki, Tae, Neko and Yoshino.

• We Used to Be Friends: He was very close to Aki when he was a kid, even having a crush on her. After she called him "Pig's Foot" and told him she would never like him back, he cut all ties with her and spent years planning to take revenge against her.

After Yoshino reveals she was the one who insulted him to drive him away from Aki, Masamune slowly amends his relationship with Aki. • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: He totally freaks out at the sight of a spider. Voiced by: Ayaka Ohashi (Japanese), Morgan Garrett (English) A rich girl who used to be friends with Makabe when they were children, but suddenly told him to go away and called him "Pig's Foot".

Haughty and a bit stuck up, and has a sour opinion of men. • A-Cup Angst: A bonus chapter shows her getting seriously offended when some guy taunts her small breasts.

• Adaptation Dye-Job: In the manga, she has black hair. Her hair color is changed to blue in the anime. • Alliterative Name: Aki Adagaki. • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Aki is usually flippant of Yoshino as anything other than her maid, but she does personally patch up her Twisted Ankle out of genuine concern in Chapter 44.

She also shows some genuine concern for her as a child while Yoshino is sick. • Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Neko's Betty.

Aki is the excessively mean Tsundere who Masamune actively pursues so he can get his revenge over her rejecting him before, but he's still attracted to her more vulnerable side. When the much nicer Neko appears to pursue Masamune, he rejects her because he can't give up on Aki.

• Big Eater: She loves to eat, consuming at least several bentos for lunch, but it goes right through her. • Broken Bird: Her parents' divorce and Masamune's apparent abandonment afterwards left deep emotional scars in her, resulting in her current cruel personality and strong hatred towards men. • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: Subverted.

When hearing Aki say her fat friend just stopped coming to see her with no explanation, Masamune is pissed that Aki has forgotten the part where she called him "Pig's Foot".

Later on, Masamune pieces together that Aki didn't forget about it; she really didn't do it in the first place. The only one who has ever called him "Pig's Foot" is Yoshino. • Childhood Friend Romance: She was Masamune's childhood crush who rejected him for being fat or so he thinks.

Masamune tries to make her fall for him so he can reject her in the same humiliating way. Despite Masamune's initial intentions and Aki's Tsundere personality, they slowly develop feelings for each other again. After they have cleared their past misunderstandings, they become a real couple in the final chapter. • Childhood Friends: Played With. Yoshino has been together with Aki since they were babies, but their relationship is still more akin to mistress-servant.

It's until the final stages of the manga that Aki starts treating Yoshino as a friend. • Chubby Chaser: She thought the chubby Masamune was cute and after she begins going out with Masamune, she keeps giving Masamune food so he gets fat again. It's probably a case of familiarity and Single-Target Sexuality, since her fondest memories were with little, chubby Masamune. After Masamune shows her that he has dedicated years to slimming down because he hated being fat, Aki understands that if she wants to date Masamune, she must accept the new well-built version of him and she does at the end.

• Clingy Jealous Girl: She takes it very badly when she sees Neko getting close to Masamune. • Cower Power: She does this to Makabe during their first date after an otaku attempts to take a picture of her in cosplay.

• Cry Cute: As part of her Tsundere nature, she looks cute whenever she cries. • Defrosting Ice Queen: While she remains fairly haughty, she does soften towards Masamune over time. • Deuteragonist: She's the female protagonist and Masamune's goal is making her fall in love with him, so she's just as important and focal as Masamune.

• Does Not Like Men: In school, she has a notorious reputation for rejecting her many suitors in the most humiliating ways. • Don't Call Me "Sir": In the finale, she asks Yoshino to drop the "-sama" when the latter refers to her. It shows that she's formally inviting Yoshino to be her friend instead of just her servant. • Dude Magnet: Implied to be this as despite constantly mocking the guys that confess to her, more keep coming every week. • Eating Lunch Alone: She eats lunch all by herself at the P.E.

storage. Unusually, Aki is actually very popular at her school.

masamune kun no revenge character

She eats alone because she doesn't want anyone to know she's a Big Eater. • Establishing Character Moment: When Masamune sees her again for the first time in eight years, Aki rejects a guy who wrote her a love letter and publicly humiliates him in class by calling him "Pudding Prince". This leaves Masamune no doubts that this is the cruel girl who rejected him in a similar way in the past. • The First Cut Is the Deepest: She keeps rejecting the men who confess to her because she believes her childhood crush, Masamune, ditched her without explanation and she's deeply masamune kun no revenge character she'll be dumped again.

After she finds out it was all a misunderstanding caused by Yoshino, Aki starts dating Masamune. • First Girl Wins: She's the girl Masamune has set his eyes on from the very start. Despite all the twists and turns with other girls like Neko and Yoshino, Masamune chooses Aki as his girlfriend in the final chapter.

• Freudian Excuse: It's eventually revealed that Aki was actually in love with Masamune when they were kids, since he helped her deal with the trauma of her parents' crumbling marriage, and the one who rejected him and gave him the nickname "Pig's Foot" was actually Yoshino in disguise. When Masamune moved away to get in shape and plot his revenge, Aki was left heartbroken, thinking that he had just abandoned her, and thus she began humiliating any guy who confessed their feelings to her.

• Girlish Pigtails: She wears her hair in two long twintails. It makes all the more obvious that she's a Tsundere. • Girls Are Really Scared of Horror Movies: She reacts this way after being tricked by Yoshino into watching a horror movie on her first date with Makabe. • Growling Gut: The reason she is such a Big Eater is to prevent this from happening to her in public. • Important Haircut: In the final chapter, she cuts her hair short to symbolize her futile efforts to give up on Masamune.

• In-Series Nickname: "Brutal Princess". • Innocently Insensitive: When they were kids, Aki thoughtlessly told Yoshino that she wouldn't feel lonely as long as she had Masamune.

This made Yoshino feel that she didn't mean anything for Aki even though they have been together since they were babies. Yoshino then drove Masamune away so Aki would rely on her again.

• Insecure Love Interest: Similar to Masamune, Aki feels very insecure about their relationship when they try and start dating as Masamune appears to get physically ill from merely touching her. It gets worse when she finds the notes of his revenge plan against her, which leaves Aki convinced that Masamune doesn't like her at all and she ends up agreeing with Neko that breaking up with Masamune is the best thing she can do for him, even though it breaks her heart.

At the end, however, Aki and Masamune become a couple again, now sure that they do love each other for their shared past and present. • Instant Fan Club: She has a fan club among the female masamune kun no revenge character. • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Ultimately, she tries to give up her love for Masamune because she's convinced by Neko that Masamune is really in love with Yoshino.

However, Masamune turns down Yoshino and gets back together with Aki. • Letting Her Hair Down: After she defrosts a good deal, she sheds the twintails and wears her hair down. It makes her look less uptight and gentler. • Lonely Rich Kid: She never had anyone to play with at her mansion other than Yoshino who is more of a servant than a friend.

Also, her parents got separated and spent their time competing for her attention. She only ever had real fun when she was with Masamune until Yoshino drove masamune kun no revenge character away out of jealousy.

masamune kun no revenge character Lovable Alpha Bitch: Aki is the prettiest and richest top student, admired by guys and girls at her school. However, she's infamously known as the "Cruel Princess" who enjoys to humiliate the guys who confess to her.

Despite of that, Masamune slowly discovers Aki isn't as bad as he thought her to be and she becomes nicer later on. • Loving a Shadow: After Masamune reveals his true identity to her, Aki immediately agrees to be his girlfriend at last.

However, their relationship suffers troubles because Aki expects Masamune to act more like the fat boy from her memories and this frustrates Masamune because he doesn't want to go back to the way he was after eight years of working hard to get into shape. Aki hears Neko's assumptions about Masamune's feelings and this convinces her that she isn't the right girl for the current Masamune. Were it not for the fact that Pig's Foot was an insult from Masamune's past and Master being his nickname for Yoshino because he's learning from her, one could construe that they are in an S&M relationship. • Childhood Friends: Played With.

Yoshino and Aki grew up together in the mansion, but Yoshino is still Aki's servant and was constantly reminded to act as such. Throughout the closing chapters, it really seems Yoshino might have as well replaced Aki as the main heroine. She's taken out of the spotlight until the very last chapter because Masamune rejected her. Even then, the epilogue OVA is more about Yoshino than either Masamune or Aki. • Stealth Hi/Bye: Pulls this on multiple characters when she's setting up one of her plans.

She leaves after saying that she would not mind being his dance partner at the after-party. With an hour before the performance, Kojūrō finds Neko at the food stalls. In the school gymnasium, they inform Tae that Masamune has gone missing.

Meanwhile, a skilled kendo practitioner named Kikune Kiba has captured Masamune in a closet and wrapped him in blankets. Mari orders Kikune to keep Masamune hostage until Aki and Kanetsugu finish dancing at the after-party. Aki finds out that Kanetsugu also has gone missing. Yoshino previously disguised herself as the Evil Queen and locked Kanetsugu in another closet. Kikune became a bodyguard for Aki since a year ago after the latter rejected a cheating kendo practitioner named Masaru Tawarada.

Kikune releases Masamune after he accuses her of being unfair. Masamune confidently waits for his friends to rescue him after realizing from Mari that Kanetsugu is also taken hostage.

Aki tells Mari that the show must go on without Kanetsugu. After receiving a message from Mari saying to leave Masamune and find Kanetsugu, a furious Kikune chases Masamune out the window, but she falls into the fountain below while he hangs onto the ledge. Tae and Kojūrō tell Masamune that Aki is still performing without Kanetsugu, prompting Masamune to run back inside.

To prevent Aki from humiliating herself as Snow White, Masamune ignores Mari's objections and volunteers to be Prince Charming, thanks to Neko. During the scene where Snow White ate the poisoned apple and dies in a coffin with the Seven Dwarfs tearfully surrounding her, Prince Charming appears on stage.

Despite being stricken with a fever, Masamune pushes through and manages to kiss Aki, but she punches him in embarrassment as the play comes to a close.

During the after-party, students of Class 2-A and Class 2-B eventually decide to have a karaoke battle as a tie-breaker for the competition. Tae, Aki, Neko and Yoshino each select songs, singing with mics and scoring pretty high. However, Sonoka and Kikune catch on to Masamune, as he tries to escape from the karaoke battle. Aki and Neko even perform a duet together. When it is Masamune's turn to sing, he ends up scoring the lowest despite burning fifteen calories.

Afterwards, Masamune and Aki sit on a park bench while waiting for Yoshino to come back from shopping. Masamune and Aki discuss how he stepped in during her play. He asks her to kiss him, but he ends up being fed a sweet baked potato just when Yoshino returns. When Aki and Yoshino leave, Masamune plots to execute his revenge plan during a class trip to Paris. He returns home, learning that his cousin Haruka and his aunt Asae look exactly like his mom Kinue. Chinatsu convinces Kinue, Haruka and Asae to wear matching outfits and takes several pictures of them. While Haruka confesses that she wanted to marry Masamune, he claims that somebody already has his heart, though she still offers to be next in line.

Aki, Yoshino, Neko, Tae and Kojūrō travel by yacht and visit Aki's summer villa at Tsunade Island. Yuisaki nosily asks Aki if she was dumped by Masamune, and Aki confirms that Masamune only gave himself more attention. This is shown when Masamune smacks into a street lamp while admiring himself in the shopping district. After a day at the beach, the girls gather together to talk about relationships, but they end up studying for the entrance exams. A drunk Yuisaki carries Kojūrō under her arm, while spurring up a conversation about loving attractive guys.

As everyone else falls asleep, Aki calls Masamune at night, and she confirms to him that she is lonely.

At the mansion, Yoshino is advised by her sister Shigeno Koiwai to have the day off. Shigeno gives Yoshino a haircut and a manicure before sending her outside in formal attire. As spectators turn heads, Yoshino contemplates that she always wore flat shoes and comfortable clothes which allowed her to be at Aki's beck and call.

She enjoys a dessert served by a waiter and receives a balloon given by a bear mascot. Yoshino sees a boy and a girl who resemble Masamune and Aki as children, and after the boy accidentally drops his ice cream onto her dress, Yoshino gives up her balloon to the boy as a sign of forgiveness.

She changes into causal attire in a dressing room, and she is glad to roam freely without getting attention. Returning to the mansion, Yoshino tells Shigeno that she wants to become prettier on her own, though she jokes about planning to dump the guy who falls in love with her. Reception [ edit ] Reviewing the masamune kun no revenge character volume, Rebecca Silverman of Anime News Network stated that the combination of revenge comedy and romance was "working thus far". She felt that Aki's servant was the most interesting character, but also enjoyed Masamune, especially how he had to "think about the correct response for each situation he finds himself in".

She called Aki "utterly detestable", and noted that it would be difficult for the series to turn around and make her a romantic interest. She wrote that the art was attractive, but noted that the drawings of women were often anatomically incorrect.

[43] The anime series' first episode received poor reviews from Anime News Network's staff during the Winter 2017 season previews. Theron Martin enjoyed the series the most, stating that with the clichés he should have masamune kun no revenge character the first episode, but instead he found it quite entertaining.

Other staffers weren't so positive. Nick Creamer called it a "fairly generic romcom premiere starring a very repugnant cast", while Bamboo Dong claimed it was "a plain piece of toast smeared with unresolved childhood memories of rejection" and complained about how males are portrayed as hapless victims of the heartless women. Jacob Chapman called the comedy "dehumanizing" and the episode was not engaging. Paul Jensen was more positive in that he found the story and characters were unusual enough to be interesting, but he had mixed feelings as he was not sure what the series wanted to be.

Silverman states that the episode walks a fine line between comedy and cruelty and her strong dislike of Aki is definitely coloring this episode for her. [44] Fellow ANN editor Lauren Orsini chose Masamune-kun's Revenge as her pick for the Worst Anime of 2017, criticizing its "excessive cruelty" being delivered by the two main leads and the rest of the cast, concluding that, "This anime should only be viewed as an example of how not to win friends and influence people. The best revenge is a life well lived, as in, not Masamune's approach".
