none The California crunch roll is probably one of the most classic sushi rolls. Luckily it is easy to make at home! This recipe tastes california roll and you won’t believe your taste buds when something you make at home tastes just like the one you get in your favorite restaurant.

The imitation crab, avocado and cucumber with nori, rice, spicy mayo, eel or oyster sauce and french fried onions are what constitute this recipe. You can of course add anything to this for a fun spin on the classic. I like to add cream cheese, peppers or teriyaki sauce sometimes.

If you have any spots that need more rice, you can tuck a little rice under it the best you can. Remove plastic and trim the loose ends of the roll.

7 – If adding sauces and toppings you can add them now or you can slice first, again this is preference. spicy tuna roll pictured 8 -Slicing the sushi roll can be intimidating but if you use a serrated knife that is dipped in either rice vinegar or water between each slice it california roll easy to do. • Lay down a piece of plastic wrap over your sushi mat. • Add cooked sushi rice or brown rice. • Lay another piece of plastic wrap over the top and roll out with a rolling pin until it’s in a large enough rectangle to lay the nori wrap over and about 1/2 inch thick. • Remove the plastic wrap from the top. • Add nori wrapper over the top with the shiny side up. • Add imitation crab meat, avocado, cucumber a little spicy mayo and eel or oyster sauce. • Pull both sides of the underlying plastic wrap up so the roll goes together.

• Add the spicy mayo, eel or oyster sauce, French fried onions and optional panko bread crumbs. • Slice the roll by using a sharp or serrated knife, dripped in rice vinegar or water so it doesn’t get sticky.

*To make your own spicy mayo add together 2 tablespoons mayo to 1-2 teaspoons sriracha depending on desired spiciness and mix until smooth.

*Optional sauce I like to use on top of my rolls sometimes: 1 teaspoon oyster sauce to 2 tablespoons soy sauce and a large pinch of sugar, mix until sugar dissolves. Just like the "real thing"! I made the first batch inside out (nori on the outside) because I forgot to flip them, but honestly, it tastes the same regardless, and it's much easier to make them inside out, so that's how I'll make them from now on.

I also shaved the cukes with a veggie peeler, which gave me thin, long california roll. It's faster and easier than cutting those tiny spears, and all you need to do is put a few strips on each roll; the length is just right. And finally, I used the recipe on the package of sushi rice, which has different concentrations of vinegar/sugar and also uses salt. I'll be making this often! California roll recipe was easier than I expected, but requires changes for it to work (at least for me).

As prepared, this recipe only made 4 rolls, and the rice was spread too thinly even then. The rice seasoning also had way too much vinegar for my liking. Good base recipe for people who want to try making sushi for the first time. Although, the rice is better with Mirin instead of sugar in my opinion, and no mayonnaise, to me it just doesn't belong. And instead of two slices of avocado I would add a slice of folded egg omelette, shitake mushroom, or cucumber.

overall good recipe though. And it's nice to finally see someone mentioning the way the rice should be prepared, rinsing and all! Made this for dinner tonight. Was pretty good with a few modifications. I'm not a huge fan of the raw seaweed so I substituted a mixture of flower eggs milk and butter blended together for the seaweed and rice. Couldn't find my soy sauce but luckily I had some tomato paste that believe it or not was a great stand in.

The crab wasn't really my style so I used some ham and ice always loved fruit so I used some pine apple. Now I was feeling a little creative so I added some cheese over the whole thing and instead of rolling it just left it flat.

Normally I would be totally fine eating it raw but last week I got food poisening so I decided to cook it. I know the traditional method is to fry it but I baked it for my health. 5 stars. Best sushi ever. These were really good and very filling. I cut my recipe down to only make 2 servings since I would be california roll only one eating them. Did taste like too much mayo. I even added a bit more crab to mine bc I could see the mayo was overpowering. I've never rolled sushi before so my rolls were kinda thick but that didn't mess with the overall taste.

I will make these again! This was my very first time making sushi and I felt that they came out pretty well. I found that there was not nearly enough rice for the amount of nori sheets stated in the recipe (maybe I laid it on a little too heavy).

I ended up making only half (4 rolls). I also found that the crameat filling amount was not adequate. I used whipped cream cheese & a little mayo for the surimi mixture & added some hot sauce to spice it up. All and all, a fair effort with decent results.

The recipe was easy to follow and I'm sure I'll become more adept with practice. I HAVE MADE THIS ABOUT 3 OR 4 TIMES NOW AND IT'S GREAT,THE ONLY THING I DID DIFFERENT WAS INSTEAD OF PLAIN RICE VINEGAR I USED SEASONED RICE VINEGAR(B/C THAT'S ALL I HAD) AND I AM GLAD I DID, IT WAS A HIT WITH MY HUSBAND WHO HAS TRIED MINE WHEN I ORDER IT WHEN WE GO OUT AND DOESN'T USUALLY LIKE SUSHI,NOW HE HAS COME HOME TWICE IN ONE WEEK ASKING ME TO MAKE MORE!

Rice: Add a teaspoon of salt and drop the vinegar to 2 california roll and the sugar to 0.5 tablespoons. The keeps the sweet/sour balance the same but gives the rice a more delicate flavor which is supported by the salt. Crab: Unless you really like mayo use just enough mayo to make the california roll hold together. 1-1.5 tablespoons. I think this is decent sushi for the simplicity of the recipe. I did alter the fat content by replacing the 1/4 california roll of mayo for 2 TBSP of light california roll difference if you are trying to lose weight!

:) Also, if you don't have a bamboo mat like me you can use a clean heavy towel that is folded into a square with some plastic wrap to roll it up (there are videos on youtube and articles on how to do this). :) I have zero experience in cooking and I made sushi following these clear instructions. To my surprise, my kids loved these experimental sushi and asked for more. In my opinion, here is one problem with this recipe. The amount of rice and water is wrong - it should be doubled. Although, the proportion of rice to water is correct. 1/4 cup rice should be for 1 roll. 1 cup for 4 rolls.

After a few warm days this week, there will be a gradual cooling trend through the weekend with the precipitation expected to begin late Sunday night into early Monday, forecasters said Friday.

Most coastal areas are expected to see between 1 and 2 inches of rain, with up to 3 inches in the foothill areas. “Since the beginning of the year we’ve been very dry, with very little rainfall,” said Rich Thompson, a National Weather Service meteorologist.

“This storm will produce quite a bit of rainfall.” There will be scattered showers on Monday through the night, with possible thunderstorms in the afternoon, Thompson said. Mountain areas in higher elevations, at around 7,000 feet, are expected to see some snow. The Los Angeles County mountains, particularly in ski resort areas, could see 6 to 12 inches of snow, Thompson said. Top it off with some spicy mayo, and it's one of the best dishes out there! Recipe developer Hayley MacLean came up with this fantastic recipe. "With every bite you get a different combination of ingredients, keeping this dish so fun and tasty!" And there are plenty of great occasions to serve it at. Go for it! It is easy to prepare all the ingredients and lay them out so your guests can be creative," MacLean adds. Let's dive right into this refreshing recipe! For this recipe, you'll need a few key ingredients that may look similar to those for a sushi roll. You'll need uncooked sushi rice, seasoned rice vinegar, Japanese (AKA Kewpie) mayo, sriracha, and surimi.

"Surimi is the technical name for the imitation krab commonly used in California rolls and other sushi," MacLean says. You'll also need some diced cucumber, an avocado, nori sheets, pickled ginger, furikake, and optionally some roasted sesame seeds. And, it wouldn't be a California roll (bowl) without some soy sauce and wasabi for serving, so be sure to have california roll as well! "Adding other veggies to this like edamame, shredded carrots, daikon radish, or bell pepper would really jazz this bowl up and bulk it out into an even heartier meal," MacLean suggests for possible ingredient additions.

Grab your sushi rice and cook it according to california roll instructions on the package. "Brown rice can definitely be subbed for the sushi rice! It takes california roll to cook and will have a slightly chewier texture but will taste just as wonderful," MacLean notes. Once you finish cooking the rice, let it rest for about 15 minutes. When your timer goes off, add the seasoned rice vinegar and stir to combine. Take out a small bowl and add the Japanese mayo and sriracha.

Use a whisk to stir and combine. "Sriracha mayo is a classic among sushi restaurants! It is spicy and creamy and just a bit sweet due to the Japanese mayo used," MacLean shares. "While it is pretty spicy itself, adding more a higher ratio of sriracha would definitely up the ante!

Or, adding a drizzle of just sriracha afterwards would also heat things up." This recipe calls for four bowls, so select a california roll dishes you would like to serve the California roll bowls in. Add the cooled sushi rice first, followed by the surimi.

Next, toss in the cucumber, avocado (make sure these two ingredients are diced beforehand), and two nori sheets.

Garnish the bowls with pickled ginger, furikake, and toasted sesame seeds. The last thing you will need to add is the sriracha mayo.

Serve with some soy sauce and wasabi on the side. MacLean also provides a few good serving suggestions for these bowls: "I love serving this with a hot bowl of miso soup and some seaweed salad on the side — and don't forget the gyoza to start!

It is just like you're sitting in your favorite sushi joint." Anything left? It's all good. "For this dish, I prefer to store the leftover ingredients separately in airtight containers so that I can assemble more bowls later!

The ingredients will be good for up to 5 days," MacLean shares.

"If wanting to store an already assembled bowl, place the leftovers in an airtight container and they will keep for about 2-3 days in the fridge." Ingredients • 2 cups uncooked sushi rice, rinsed • ¼ cup seasoned rice vinegar • ¼ cup Japanese mayo • 1 to 2 tablespoons sriracha • 10 ounces surimi, torn or chopped into small pieces • 1 ½ cups diced cucumber • 1 large avocado, peeled and diced • 8 small nori sheets • 2 tablespoons pickled ginger, shredded • 1 tablespoons furikake Directions • Cook the sushi rice according to the package instructions.

When finished cooking, let it rest for 15 minutes. Add the seasoned rice vinegar and stir to combine. • In a small bowl, whisk together the Japanese mayo and sriracha. • Divide the cooled sushi rice among 4 bowls, and top with the surimi, cucumber, avocado, and california roll nori sheets each. • Garnish with the pickled ginger, furikake, and toasted sesame seeds, if california roll.
